6 speed

hey guys i'm wondering what parts i need for a 6 speed in my 2000. i'm looking into a spacer so that i can use a 3L flywheel and clutch so i guess i'm asking is i know i need the shifter and cable for the shifter to work, but will the speed sensor work from my car, will the master clutch cylinder work, do i need to change the slave cylinder? will my starter work or do i need to get one from a 6 speed? any info would be great, and please no just look for a 6 speed questions. i know that this will be a involved but i have found a tranny and if i can get into this cheaper than the other option i have. my other option is to get a brand new 5 speed. i don't want to have mine rebuilt and i really don't want a junk yard tranny, but i have found a 6 speed with less than 6000 miles on it. thanks for any help at all.

I was planning on doing this instead of trading in my car, but the price IS pretty steep. its going to cost about 3k for parts + labor. and that is JUST for a 6 speed tranny. still lacking is the 3.5 engine (which can probably be done for about a grand + labor). you WILL be slower than 2k2 maximas and 4th gen maximas even if you do the swap (w/ the same mods AFAIK). PLUS, down time while the car is being worked on.

but anyway, since you asked, this is a good sight to look up stuff. Find most everything i want on this site.

and here is what it yields

well downtime is not an issue right now because my car is down. i broke my 5 speed. labor will be free because it's just me doing the work. how will it make the car slower than it was before?

yeah im wondering the same thing, the car should be faster in terms of acceleration b/c the lower gears

I think AnDyMaN was saying that the tranny won't make it as fast as a 3.5 car.

Does the tranny you found have HLSD? The 6-speed from an 04 car will work too and has better syncros. I found a low mile 04 6-speed from Canada with HLSD for $850 shipped last year. I had the 3rd gear grind and wanted the HLSD so I did the swap. Nearly all the manual Maximas sent to Canada had HLSD. If you're going to spend the money and time you may as well get the whole package.

The gears aren't that much 'lower' with respect to speed. Here are the top speeds in each gear on unloaded tires and stock rev limit.

6MT (FD 3.812)
41.6 ...67.5... 94.3... 124.4... 162.2... 208.3

5MT(FD 3.823)
38.7... 68.8 ...100.1... 116.7... 140.0

I'm planning on doing this also. I have all parts needed but a flywheel and shifter stuff. Trans and clutch stuff is all ready to go. Basically the engine side is all 3.0 stuff. and tranny side including flywheel and starter is all 3.5 stuff. I assume the speed sensor will work, but the wiring will likely need to be customized. I don't think the connectors will plug and play. But the bolt pattern for the flywheels is interchangeable. Some fabrication will be required but if this is successful I will do a full write up.
