Can anyone tell me how good the stock tires are. I've never heard of the Toyo Proxes A05. I just checked their website and the A05 isn't listed. So, anyone tell me how good they are, i haven't gotten a chance to test em out and have 400 more miles before i can. thanks...

The A05's are a decent, H-rated touring tire. They're designed for long life as opposed to high performance. For more information on tire ratings, check out:

Nope. The 225/50R17 Potenza RE-92s used on SE models are V-rated. Ironlord has a GXE . . . same as my wife.

They aren't long life tires, the treadwear is only 240 if i recall, that is 10 yr old technology. Today, all the Michelins, Dunlops and stuff have treadwears of 300+ and 400+ with still the same performance.

I saw a 2000 max with Continentals which I think are better than the Toyos.

Oh, i know they're only h rated, which works since i apparently have a speed limiter. and i think ifd i remember they're 270 a a, which isn't bad. but i was wondering if anyone had any personal insights. I'm just kinda curious since i can't take my max there yet. And man, i filled her up today for the first time and ouch, premoium is a lot more expensive than the 87 crap i put in my old car.

I have the toyo's on my 99Max they are not bad they are not good for winter, I have blizzak's for that. Mine have 33,000 miles on them and I have ran three autocrosses on them. They only have about a couple of months left on them. I am replacing them with Bridgestone re950's I have been pretty happy with them so far though.

That may be true, but my wife has over 30,000 miles on her A05s and there's plenty of tread life left on them. I suspect she'll make it to 45,000 miles before they need to be replaced.

I'll bet that she doesn't drive the Max as hard as you do

I'll just say that when my tires do wear out, I probably won't be replacing them with Toyo AO5s. Actually I've been eyeing the Yokohama Avids, they are pretty cheap and they have decent specs.

my friend has same set of tires on her 99 max SE...she's got over 50,000 miles and still has little bit of tread left...and no..she doesn't drive as much as i do or as hard as i do...but she also almost never rotates the tires either....

wow, 30K

I have 18K on mine and I'll be lucky to get 4 more K out of them. I think they are quiet because they are so soft (240 treadwear). After going back to the tire shop 3 times, they finally realized and showed me, the tire is slightly out of round. bummer. might replace them sooner then. I hate that 85+ mph shimmy I have its like a speed limiter.

Interestingly, I don't drive my Max all that hard. As a result, I'll probably end up getting 30,000 miles or more out of my Potenzas. Too bad, huh?

If you're not planning to upsize, Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's are available in 215/55R16s with a Z rating. The Kumhos seem to be about the most popular tires on this forum. And they're also quite inexpensive.

out of round too

one of my toyo Proxes is out of round too, and I have around 18,000 miles on them. It set up a slight front end steering vibration, especially when braking. It was significant enough that it convinced the dealer that my rotors needed replacing, even though they didnt. I ended up sticking the out of round tire on the rear, where it is less noticeable. Nissan still hasnt called me back to advise if they will replace the out of round tire, and toyo dealers wont touch the Proxes. They all claim it's a factory tire only, and not purchaseable after market.
Even with the front and rear stabilizers, I have found the tire to handle not too badly at all, at high speeds and cornering, although dry pavement quick starts from standstill leave a little to be desired. lots of squirm and squeal. I too use a winter tire with studs, for snow and ice driving
