Battery connection problem

My stock battery just went booboo so I went and purchased a new battery...for some odd reason the connector cable for the negative side does not fit tight. It does matter how hard I tighten the nut...it is still somewhat loose. Is there a solution for this or any trick? For the time being I just have slipped in a small piece of copper so it fits snug. Thanks for the help.

You could try a different battery terminal...

I had the same problem with an autozone battery that i bought, I think it is Duralast or something like that. the guy at autozone put it on for me and he made it fit, but when I disconnected the battery when I was installing my intake I couldn't get it to tighten up and stay. I got to messin with it and I finally got mine to fit tight. the battery terminal was wider at the bottom and got narrower as it went up, so just make sure you push the cable all the way down until it sits as close to the bottom of the terminal as it can and then tighten the nut. it should hold pretty tight. hope that helps

asianstyle is right. The terminal is cone shaped and wider at the bottom. If you need an immediate ghetto fix, wrap the terminal in a strip of tin foil to build up the diameter and try to tighten the connection.

I had a dodge intrepid for a while and the cable connector that comes from the factory and expand over time. The replaced it as a factory defect.
