Cleaning headlights

2000 Maxima here, i have this horrible film on my headlights, kinda yellow, maybe even off white color, that just wont come off with normal washing. What can i use? maybe some fine sandpaper? what grain # should i use if i wanted to go that way? (without wrecking and scratching the headlights of course)

Thanks!

I belive you can use aluminum polish, and a good buffer and pad comes in handy in a lot of places.... Check out these threads from the free search function.

plastx is better than the 3m film cleaner. I have tried them both on the oxidation, and the Plastx seemed to work better. Almost 60% of the cost of the 3m too.

Meguiars Plastx works great for light scuffs and hazing form the sun, but monty31 is right, wet sanding works the best. Start the wet sanding with 1000 then resand with 1500 and again with 2000 grit sandpaper. Just use a spraybottle to keep the surfac wet at all times. I have tried this on an Accord and it works great. I want to try this on my 02 maxima but I cannot figure out how to get the headlight off the car.

Anyone know how to get the mounting stud in the fender to release so the headlight assembely can slide out. I am afraid to just pull it out.

I just used the PlastX with the headlights still on the car. Got rid of all of the light fogging easily. Took less than 10 minutes to do the pair. $4.99 at AutoZone. Applied with a microfiber polish pad by hand, then buffed with a microfiber towel.
