Yeah, manually shift
I would do the manual shift at redline. The 5th gen benefits more from this than any other Max. The shift point is around 6000-6100 under wide open throttle. There's still another 400-500 RPM with HP left. I wouldn't do this often though. It's a little tougher on the tranny.

Re: Re: Yeah, manually shift
racing with auto do this
drop it into second
turn o/d off and turn the a/c off too..
put foot and brakes and gas
and softly press the gas
then you let go of the brakes when you it turns green
shift to d around 30~35 mph (about 4k rpm)
i'm not responsible for if you mess up ok =P

Re: Re: Yeah, manually shift
On Friday I'll run my car at the track with auto and manual shifting and compare the results.

up shift from 1st on. I don't have a Hotomatic but I use to have a 96GLE HOTO. and I did that on that car. One day the Check engine light came on and then I had to get a O2 sensor replaced. I don't know if that had anything to do with me hot ******* the car but I didn't do it much after that. Don't drop from Neutral to Drive, Please Spare US ALL, your tranny willnot last long if U keep doing that.

Don't do that... it'll screw up your tranny in no time. If you are still under warranty and want a new tranny then...........

i HAVE NOT dropped it from neutral. I haven't raced in my car yet (at least not from a stop) because i feel it's too new. I was just wondering how people race from a stop with an auto because i have no experience in auto racing. It definitely does feel faster not shifting manually through the gears SOMETIMES. starting from 1 gear is slow in my opinion and starting from 2nd gear feels faster than not manually shifting sometimes as well. is holding the brake while gently pushing the accelerator bad for the car? just wondering. Somehow even an si feels faster than this auto at times. Thanks for the response .... PEEEEEEEEEEACE

If you let the auto do the job itself, the thing will shifts at 61~6200, which we will never get to the peak engine output. Seems dumb to me, don't know why Nissan programmed it this way.

Go for it... why don't you just start from 1st and manually upshift through each gear?
