Any other '01 Maxima's had this problem?

I have an '01 manual (62,500 on the odo), and when I got back from winter break and started her up, the idle started going wild after about 15 minutes. The car started up fine warmed up fine and was idling normally at first, and it drove fine for a few miles but then, when I pulled into a parking lot and disengaged the clutch, the car died. I replicated the problem in the parking lot, then drove it around for another 10 minutes. The idle started holding steady at 1200 rpm at lights, then shooting up to 1700, then 2000, and back to 500 rpm.

I took it in to Nissan, and they tested it for a couple of days, then told me that the idle air control valve was shot. Yesterday (a week later), they called me to say that the ECM was also fried somehow (fortunately, the ECM is covered under the emissions warranty). Dave B. seemed to think that I might be only the 3rd manual Maxima out there to have both of these problems at the same time, as it's usually a problem associated only with autotragics, because they have the extra control unit which isn't properly grounded from the factory.

To make a long story short, just looking to see if any other manual owners have had this same combination of mishaps...

I have had teh same problem after my throttle body service. It was the idle air control valve. This will cause your car to shut down when clutch is disenagegd and hi idle when you are in neutral.

hope this helps

Certainly not - but you may want to ask - that never hurts...also it shouldnt be that much trouble to replace (I dont know about that with a SC installed)

My question is (5speed btw) once replaced and its idling high, would the ECU relearn itself back to normal or would that need to be done by the stealership..?

I was idling high after MAF replacement but it fixed itself on its own..would the IACV do the same? Im hoping those with 5speeds chime in that have already replaced theirs.

Well, like I said, the ECM is covered under warranty, so I'll be getting a brand new one, along with the new IAC valve, by Tuesday. (Only 2 weeks without a car while Nissan orders crap and screws with my baby.) I'll let you all know how it drives after the repairs...hopefully it will be much better.

I've got the same problem right now. My 01 20th was in winter storage until last week. I sold my Jeep and now have to drive the Max. The first couple of days it would die on me when I pushed the clutch in. It doesn't do that any more. Now it has the eratic idle issue. Its quite annoying, not only to drive, but for drivers next to me. I'm going to check out the How to section and see if I can fix it myself. Its -11' right now though. At least the car doesn't idle eratically on cold-starts.

If anyone else has advice, let me know.
