Bolting in different seats ie: 350Z seats, etc...

Does anyone know for sure if the 350Z seats will bolt up to the factory seat brackets in a 5.5gen???
I'm looking to get something with better bolster support, and don't want crappy "racing seats" or want to spend tons of money on uncomfortable ( for daily driving) Sparcos.

Any input will be appreciated!

Thanks,

Mike

It's been done in a 4th gen before. What you can do is use the cushions and stuff from the 350 seats, but then you'll have to use the 5th gen seat bottom frame...

if you have heated seats on your 5th gen and are talking about using them with the new seats, then you would have to remove the leather seat covers and install the heating element. If you're talking about buying already heated seats, they will work, because all you have to do is plug the element into your already-existing heated seat plugs.

Bolting the bottom cushions on will be the hard part, just as it is with the 4th gens, but it can be done if you get creative. The seat controls control the frame so if you just swapped in the seat cushions, you would still retain full power control of your seats.

GREAT!!!
Thanks for the info!
Hopefully I can do this within a couple of months.....

I'm with Jason... I'm not a big guy, and the hardest part about going around the twisties is having to brace my elbow and knees on the door/center console etc....

Sooner, go to my350z.com and look around. If you want I have an account with them so I could post a WTB thread.

I am in the process of doing it right now...several issues arise on the 5th gen as far as fitment is concerned...

it takes a lot more work, our seat pans will not work with the 350z cushions...unless you modify them a good deal...at that point you might as well fabricate a seat bracket that will bolt up to our stock floor holes and have holes to bolt in the z seat...(been really busy lately, so I put this project on hold after seeing how difficult and how far off the fitment truly is)...

for the 4th gen's it is a much easier process indeed! if their seat pan holes line up with our floor pan holes, you could get those as well and then bolt the z seat to the seat pan I guess..but then you are talking about buying two sets of seats which is too expensive...

as far as using heated seats...it will work, but the wiring is different..the z seats utilize a unified harness for all functions, heating and power motor (if the z seats you get have both)...where as we have seperate harnesses for each function, heat is one harness, power motor is another, and airbag is yet another...this part is not hard, however, keep in mind something like 75-80% of all Z's were purchased without the side airbag option, so if you have that in your max like I do, you will have to track down something like a 2 or 2.2 ohm resistor to fool your car into thinking they are there so the annoying srs airbag light isn't always flashing at you...

after messing with fabbing my own bracket from supplies at a typical hardware store, the work required was way too much, so instead I went with some cheap aftermarket universal seat brackets made for our seat floor pans...you can find them on ebay if you search for 2000 maxima seat brackets...in which case they are a flat strong surface that bolt to our floor pan in the stock bolt holes and would allow drilling for the 350z holes so you can mount the z seat to it...haven't gotten that far yet...once things get less busy, I will try and finish it up and perhaps do a write-up or take pics...

good luck!

No rush or anything... but that write-up would be SWEEEEET.

Good luck with everything man, can't wait to see the finished product!
