Going to Nissan to reset ECU for new MAF...

My question is, while I'm there ,what else can I have them adjust with the consult II besides timing advance?

Thanks

do you mean reflash?
a reset, you can do yourself by disconnecting the battery overnight.

hey, i had a question.. this ecu reflash procedure.. do they really do what they say they do? or do they just turn off the check engine light, like you can do with an OBD.. because it seems awfully convenient that the process supposedly takes an hour so they can charge you the full hourly service rate

they actually reflash the ECU to change the software to fix the problem (its like a firmware update). its a file that is saved to the ECU. an hour of labor is normal

Most to all dealers will not charge anything less than 1 hour of labor even if it takes them only 15 mins.

On the 5.5gens there is a TSB out for hesitation between 2500-3000rpm. If you were not experiencing this before you replaced your MAF, it is probable that you have no need for a ECU reflash.

I was experiencing this hesitation pre and post MAF replacement. After the ECU reflash, it has completely gone away.

Is this a must when replacing a MAF? Even if you have no SES?

all you can do is timing advance, clear any codes if you have an engine light, unless you have a knock sensor witch won't set a light. Basicly nothing else.

Changed? What do you mean?

If you swapped in a different ECU, then yes.

If you had the ECU reflashed, then yes, most likely all previous settings were wiped out.

A new one was swapped in as the old one was "dying" as told by the dealership. So my answer is yes either way. Thanx.

you can also bump the idle target if you have an udp that is spinning too slowly.

so when you advance the timing what does it actually do performance wise and how much you advance it?

17 degrees
improves throttle response.

Honestly i would never have an UDP installed on my vehicle.
And why would i try to compensat for an UDP by raising idle RPM? Burn more gas? We do have the torque we need unlike hondas.
UDP slowes down your accessories. Not ideal in my books...

i have the hesitation problem that nismopc was talking about between 2500 and 3000rpm. it drives me crazy. its like my car just falls on its face for a second then takes off. So when you go to the dealership for the reflash can you just tell them to advance the timing 17 degrees and they'll do it?

ASK for a printout before you do it. That way when it's done you'll have your printout.
