Proud new 5.5 Gen Owner :)

I wrecked my maxima 2 weeks ago which really sucked, I had a 96 Artic Pearl Maxima. Due to the value not being very much on the car they totalled the car. I got about 5700 for it which wasnt bad. I was looking for a different brand rather than nissan but decided I would stay true to a maxima. Picked this up this week, sorry for the dealer pictures, I will provide better pictures later today.
Its a 2k2SE and paid $10500 for it, the car runs great!

I'm debating if I should leave the stock bose head unit in, or install the Pioneer P7800 unit I have sitting here that was supposed to be in my 96 maxima. I never had a working cd player in my car. Do you guys recommend I install the Pioneer? I'm worried the aftermarket unit will not sound as good on the bose.

I've heard it's a night and day difference just when you replace the BOSE headunit, so I would do it if I were you. The headunit (which is made by clarion) is really the only bad part of those BOSE system, and although I think it sounds fine, it doesn't compare to most Aftermarket headunits, and it's also very unreliable (it'll cut the speakers out on the left side/CDs skip/cuts out the SUB, etc. )

Anyway congrats on the new car, and good luck with it.

Oh and where did you buy your car at? I bought mine at gunn nissan. They have a sh!tty service department, but the sales department is awesome there.

EDIT: are those pictures taken on 281? I can't really tell but it looks like that's the Ford dealer in the background right by bitters..

Damn man, you have VERY good eyes! Yes that is 281, lol. It was from a small used car dealer next to corvette world.
I bought the unit from crutchfield, and it came with the pocket for the 96 model, would this fit in the 2002?

The pocket won't work, because the dash shape is different. You'll also probably want to buy the adapter from crutchfield that allows you to keep the steering wheel audio controls...

And yeah I used to live north of San Antonio and bought my car at Gunn (which was pretty much right next door to that ford dealer I pointed out!)

Welcome! and happy birthday maxipad heh

I recommend replacing the BOSE system if you are a sound enthusiast. Like said above, it is a night and day difference. there is a how to or a guide somewhere about replacing bose.

FYI you will need speakers if you are replacing the headunit. check group deals, maybe the rainbow speaker deal is still active.

The Bose unit is great, you'll love it...

for about 30 minutes.
Then the cold skipping, cut outs, muffled sound, and having to crank the volume up to 25 everytime a good song comes on to enjoy it... will make you want to take a hammer to it. Throw the Pioneer in there, it's worth the 40 bucks you'll pay for the harness and setting. Also, you'll have to decide whether or not you want to spend the extra 100 on the antenna adapter and the steering wheel control unit... without them you'll lose your radio and steering controls. I installed an Alpine mp3 unit, so I just listen to that (and I still bless the day I got rid of the problematic Bose unit). I didn't do either the wheel control or the antenna. I may still do the antenna to get the radio at some point. But that is up to you.

I know about 90% of the people on here have had problems with their BOSE and hate it, but I have not had one single problem with mine. The sound is decent, but it could be better and I plan to change that this spring.

You missed the better part of what I was trying to say.

I'm one of those 90% that has had more than my share of problems. I replaced it with an aftermarket asap.

ill second that...im getting lots more power out of my 3 year old, $80 pioneer head unit via the bose speakers. no cdr read problems...no getting stuck in the head unit when the cd is scratched.
