Cons with running stock intake resonator w/ APEX-i?

I researched and I'm going for the berk technology intake (for those : berktechnology.com). For a daily driver, it seems to make more sense to run the berktechnology APEX-i intake with the stock resonator, in the sense that you don't lose much except for maybe 1-2 hp/tq up top and a "louder growl." My reason for going this route is that it's significantly cheaper and I will lose LESS low end, is this correct?

Thanks!

People must just buy it for the sound and perhaps bling.

I am running BERK + Apexi in my '00....you will notice very minimal low end power loss and a notable increase in top end hp and torque...plus a really nice suction noise 3,800rpm +

Try running just the filter...i mean you can't really lose...if you like how it sounds then keep it as is...if you want it louder, you can always buy the midpipe....also if you dont like the low end loss (if there is any on the butt dyno) then go back to stock...basically the trial and error process of buying just a filter isn't that long

IMO there are no cons. Although the dynos that were done with this in mind were not A/F tuned. Also, dyno comparisons have never been done to a DEK, only a DE and FWDVQ35.

It must help some since the Z has a 'straight' pipe. But then again the Z33IM is far different. Seems to help very slightly up top (dyno proven) w/a straight pipe. But was too loud for my taste with an open filter. So my current set-up is stock air box & straight (FC) midpipe.

Temporary of course

Thanks for the responses. Yeah, it wouldn't hurt to try, but just wanted to know if I had researched correctly... I'll go for the filter and stock midpipe. I'm running a full exhaust + stock rear section... so I'm not interested in anything MUCH louder.

NmexMAX... Have you tried open filter + stock midpipe?

Sure have. Quiet IMO. Semi throaty but raspy as RPM rises. The GAB is 'deeper' (more bass/growl)

Now...is the intake resonator that rectangular part that is right before the throttle body? I just have a cone filter on in front of the MAF and everything else stock, mine whistles from 1500-3500 or if I jab the gas.

The reason I tried that, besides getting a practically new filter for 8 bucks(parts store throwaway FTW) is my buddy has an 02 saturn LS2 with their 3.0 V6 and ALL he has is a cone filter...the thing growls like a sunofab!tch, you can hear him coming down the road, its really deep. I'll see if I can get a sound clip.

Mine has the infamous whistle even with the stok airbox. And yes, that black plastic square 'box' is the helmholtz resonator.

any1 find any differences in making the GAB by either: 1. taking out filter holder and putting hanger 2. taking out the tube which seems to sit under the hood by the radiator and leaving filter holder intact.

i think the "tube" you are referring to is the "snorkel"

and removing just the snorkel might hurt low end...i doubt its that big tho...intakes are intakes

I was curious because i had an altima b4 and this was the manner of the GAB since you cant take out the filter holder as its not just replaceable with a hanger..... =/

Are you referring to the whole Berk intake or just the filter?

I knew my GAB was deeper than "real" intakes but thought it was only me. With this set up, was the rasp increased or decreased from the FC midpipe?

Hmmmm, I am entertaining the same thoughts. On the berk website under "components", you can purchase a Mass Air Flow Adaptor for $19.50 + the Apexi for $75.95. I wonder how sound compares to stock and the full berk kit? I am guessing it would be somewhere in the middle....

Yup, I think there is an "apex-i" adapter/installation kit all in one for $29, then you can just grab the filter for another $79ish.

I thought the stock midpipe will give a less raspy note but NMexMAX says it increases from the FC midpipe. I could be reading that wrong.

The straight pipe is very loud. Stock resonator = very quiet.

There we go! I read it as "stock midpipe increased/decreased from FC midpipe."
