since i blew up my engine and have to use my insurance to pay for a new one i asked my service manager at nissan about using a 2002 3.5L maxima engine instead,he said if a 3.5L fits they would do it.a new 3.0L engine plus installation is about $7,012 a 3.5L he said should'nt cost more than a few hundred more and will still be under warranty, hopefully it will fit i'll know sometime later today.any body have any info on the new vq?,i thought it waas the same engine as 2001 just bored to a 3.5L.

Sorry to hear you blew up the 2k engine, well, you might get the 3.5L instead? What a deal!!! If it fits that is....I was wondering about that awhile back it this swap is possible. If it is, I just might scavenge a 3.5L from a crash victim, since I got most of the packages that are now standard on the 2k2 Max. Keep us posted...thanks.

hehehe....if they will drop a new 3.5 in there for you, then what more could you ask for! That would be really awesome. It will probably fit ok since I think it is just a stroked version of our 3.0 engine. Let us know how it goes...

Not only will you blow up the engine, you will blow up your tranny. Then you could get the new 6-spd instead of a new automagic.

actually, if you are above like 12 mph or so, I don't think the transmission will let you shift into reverse. Someone accidentally did that before and nothing happened.

QUANSUNG: thats pretty cool. Is your insurance going to cover the engine swap?

Argh! Its not fair! Oh well, who wants .5 lousy liters of displacement anyways. I'm GLAD I only have 3L. My car is better!

:::Walks away muttering "Ya, so maybe I'm a bit jealous...:::

Good luck with it man and enjoy the 3.5!

yes thats true, and if ur under 10 and shift to reverse, prepare to eat the steering wheel. i believe it just shuts the engine off.

That's what I was thinking. BTW, I do think that this wil be an extremely hard conversion, not only are the ECUs completely different, but the 3.5 has a electronic throttle and has a different transmission. Good luck and keep us informed.

Okay, Time to check the status of the checking and savings account(along with the kid's college fund, too!).....
Now, How will I tell the wife that after all of 3000 miles we need a new engine?

I KNOW! I'll tell her the oil needs to be changed! (I just won't tell her that to do it, I'll have the 3.0 exchanged for the 3.5!) Although when she sees a $7,000 bill for the oil change she may get suspicious. Heh heh
