Wierd 5.5 stalling problem

I've got a 2002 6sp..
Heres the deal, the car seems to stall after a WOT run as i push in the clutch when im coming to a stop... not sure what it is... no codes. the only other thing i notice is maybe a small studder somewhere in the powerband.

Any ideas?

I kinda feel like I'm being vague, but i can't think of what else to say right now, so if you have a specific question just ask

Matt

There is a TSB about the same thing on the 02s. You have to replace 3 sensonrs. Just go to the dealer it's actually a recall and provided the vin matched the criteria they will perform it for free.
Those shouldn't really studder though. You are too vague

know the TSB # by chance?

not sure what the studder could be.. i put in new NGK UR5XI (iridium) plugs in about 500 miles ago. I did find some oil in the rear bank, far right (driver side) plug cyclinder, does that have to do with the cover seal?

What are the symptoms of a bad MAF?

yup. Now this is proof of our engine burning oil through the rear cover.
This will proove to all the guys burning oil that Nissan is right when first asking for replacing that rear rockercover and gasket on oil burning issues first. Obviously cheapest. Not to say it will solve every oil burning problem.
So they tell us to replace rockercover and obviously gasket. I don't know if you can get away with either or, but i think some passages could plug in the rockercover. If i find oil in mine i am replacing both though. Got 50 more K to go till tune-up.

You don't have to worry about the TSB#. Just go ask your dealer if the recall applies. It's their responsability to inform you or just call Nissan North America and ask them if your VIN applies. It might fix your issue or it might not.
Have you ever had a throttle chamber clean? They like to carbon up around the plate and if u did a tune up that should be part of it. You need an idle air relearn with it so do some research.
I also think there was a TSB for an hesitation around 3000 RPM due o a MAF sensor. (airflow meter) ALso lack of power issues. But that would not be covered after warranty period as the recall would for lifetime.

alright.. back from the dealership...

I had the crank position sensor replaced under the recall, stalling still happens. It seems to happen when i am cruising above 65-70 and press the clutch in and as the rpms fall from, say 2500rpm, it just goes at the same pace right to 0, then i can restart it with no problem. Could this be MAF or alternator related?

To the OP: what is your idle at? Also, is the A/C on or off when it does this?

I would say MAF or intake manifold leak. How many miles are on the car?

66700 miles... i did replace the plugs not too long ago... could it be a vacuum leak where at the metal gasket under the upper intake manifold. but wouldnt that cause a rough idle?

On a side note, after have the CPS recall done to the car I am now getting 2 mpg better than i did before(i know the cars mpg is very accurate but went from ~22 to 24 or so)

it seems like a vacuum leak to me, could be plenty of other things though. try spraying brake parts cleaner around the intake manifold and look for bubbles or anything else strange

since you did a tune up you had the intake plenum off. It is possible you did not put a gasket properly. Get some throttle chamber cleaner and spray around the gaskets you took off and if idle goes up you found your leak. Has it happened right away after you did your tuneup?

what is the proper way to clean the maf? the problem hasnt happened yet today or yesterday...

i checked for a vacuum leak around the manifold, was none. what is idle vaccum at? i have a vac/boost gauge laying around i can throw on to check to check it out.

Also, could that "studder i feel be the VIAs kicking in? can most people feel the dip? I know the dynos show the dip and im just curious if anyone can feel it?

nope u can't feel vias it's smooth. You can't really check for vacum as there are more than 1 hose/gaskets that could be faulty
