Alarm question

Hello,
I have a 01 GLE that has a remote start using a Valet key. I cannot seem to figure out if the car has an alarm. Ive tried different button combo's but it will only lock/unlock the car. Did my car come stock with an alarm and remote start?

It could be just an add-on remote start. They allow you to use the stock keyless remote to activate. I don't believe remote start was a factory option

Did you try holding the right button till the parking light blink?
I've seen that setup to remote start...

Nothing. Tried holding it, pressing it two times etc... The thing is that when I press the left button.. the cars locks activate and the lights flash. The security light will also blink in the dash. The horn does not sound during all this. UGH!

horn not sounding doesn't necessarily mean the alarm isn't activated. If your lights flash and the security light blinks, chances are you're still arming your system.. you just don't have a panic button?

No panic button. My whole problem is that I have alot of money in Audio equipment in the car. If you sit inside the car and open the door when the car is supposedly armed, there is no sound of the horn or lights.

do you still have your stock remotes lying around somewhere? You might want to consider an upgrade to a system that integrates Alarm and remote start (Viper, etc)

Then I dont think it's got a Remote Start built in...
You are probably better off getting a Viper unit put in...
I have a Viper 791 which I absolutely love!

Hmmm I do not have the original remote as I am the second owner of the car through the dealer I work for. I wonder If I can purchase an orginal remote and see if that will activate the alarm. Wouldn't care If i had two remotes on my ring.

It doesn't really make sense that the alarm is deactivated - could just be a matter of you not being able to arm it with the remote you have. I'd bet if you got a stock remote, you'd be able to arm the system.

Keep in mind though, that the stock alarm won't do anything to stop people from breaking in and stealing your audio equipment - it'll just stop people from taking your car (and only then, if they try to hotwire it or something). You might want to consider buying an aftermarket alarm - or at the very least, buy a shock sensor which your stock system can use (cheaper option, should only run around $10). I plan on doing this over the summer.

Does your car have the little red Security Light on the dash that blinks when the car is locked? If that blinks than it should mean your alarm is activated. Another thing you can do is put your driver side window down, get out of the car and lock the car with the remote. Wait about 1 or 2 minutes then reach through the window and unlock the driver side door with your hand. Don't use the power lock button, just unlock the lever for the drivers side door. Now pull on the outside handle to open the door and when the door opens the alarm should go off. If not then you don't have an alarm or isn't being activated. I really thought all 5th gen maxima's had a factory alarm though.

+1, i am pretty sure all 5th gens come with an alarm unless you don't have the little red light next to your clock.

The best place to purchase an OEM remote is probably Ebay.
This is the one you need: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000-...QQcmdZViewItem
You can find the programming instructions here on the Org.

Yes I have the red light and i have tried opening the door when it is supposedly activated. The alarm still has yet to go off. Im going to try the OEM remote and go from there. Thanks

factory alarm vs aftermarket alarm

Could the two alarms conflit each other?
