SES and codes
SES and codes
Hello,
I've done searching and been here: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....336#post961336 but I want to clear things up.
1. Do our maximas use this "Service Engine Soon (SES)" light to indicate a "check engine light (CEL)" issue too?
2. Is there a way to turn off this SES light without having to go to dealer or buying some tool?
I have a steady SES light so I'm assuming emmisions. Autozone says that SES just means I need to change the oil or something (which I just did after 4,500mi), unless I'm 100% sure that SES = CEL as well on our maxes.
Thanks for the tips.

"CEL" is just different slang for "SES". Autozone will read your codes for free. No it doesn't mean you just have to change your oil...any code will trigger the light. You can clear the code by unplugging the negative battery terminal for a few hours but autozone can do that as well.
