Hi,

I just had a Cattman y-pipe installed which replaces the pre-cat. I'm now getting what I think is the "bees in the can" noise when I accelerate above 1800 rpm. It sort of sounds like a pinging noise. I cannot reproduce it in Park or Neutral when revving the engine. If I assume that the install was done correctly, is it possible the y-pipe is defective? I'm concerned because many here claim the Cattman y-pipe does not make that noise. Is it possible the noise is from a leak further downstream?

I think that the popping noise is common with the Y-pipe. You eliminated a precat, so it will be louder. The bees in a can sound is just that, a buzzing rattle noise.

 

that sound is the one reason I have no plans to upgrade any of my exhaust system.. yet.. I don't care if it growls like a beast, if I can hear those damn bees.. it'll be all for nothing.
