Sorry if this has already been covered, but I searched and did not notice anything in How-to's or using the yahoo search........anyway.........Today my 02 Maxima hesitated just a little bit on the highway, I didn't think anything of it at the moment. When I got to where I was going then tried to restart no go.......car turns over just fine, just would not start. After trying for about 15 minutes it finally started. I thought maybe I got some bad gas, I so refueled again on the way home with 93 octane at a different station than I usually use. When I got home I turned it off, tried to restart and same thing. I was eventually able to get it to start by pumping the gas pedal while hitting the starter. I did this a few times and it started each time using the pumping the gas pedal method. My Check engine light is also on now. I will take it to an auto parts store in the morning and see if they can pull the code, but I just wanted to know if there was an inexpensive troubleshooting route that I could also start on before taking it to the dealership, if the code doesn't help anyway.........thanks in advance.

So there is a MIL? That is probably pretty imoortaqnt tpo have when trying to diagnose a problem.

The : of the starter reminds me of what my 4th gen used to do when it (starter) was on its way out.

I have this same problem on my 00 maxima,sometimes it starts and sometimes it don't but I have no codes and it always cranks..anyone else have this problem?

sounds like the o2 sensor failure(s) I had this past summer. L and R bank.

all four O2 sensors changed..anything else?
