Mod eBay projector headlights

I want to consult an expert in automotive lighting.

I bought a set of those eBay projector headlamps that said fits 2000 and up maxima. Yes, it was a dumb idea but I was trying to save $$.

However, these headlamps will not directly plug into the 2002 maxima's connectors.

My question is, can I re-wire the headlamps to accept the factory connectors? So I can install the xenon bulbs into the crappy ebay projectors? This is only a temporary solution.

I can get pictures if needed and I'm worried I'll mess something up if I start to hack it up alone.

Been there, searched that. All I got was those ebay projectors uses an H3 bulb. And the light output is said to be "three beams of light which do not light up the road" If anyone knows what needs to be done to convert them to use the factory D2R bulbs, step up.

I do recall someone buying the eBay projector headlights and retrofitting TSX projectors into them with some modifications.

Usually those eBay projectors are crap and should be replaced immediately. Anyhoo thats if you want HID projectors, I'm sure you get get some Valeo H7's or some other OEM Halogen projectors (like in a few Hyundais etc etc) and retrofit them in.

Oh, you need to get the HID bulbs, ballasts and harness if you want the HIDs. IN ADDITION to the HID projectors.

A good place to start sourcing parts is:

hidplanet.com

Sign up for the forums and youll have all the info you need.

Perhaps it would be better if I returned these and just bought a replacement 2002 headlamp. This would give me a broken 2002 headlamp which I can cut up to test fit a TL projector or whatever.

Hmm, ideas.

Edit: What I was trying to accomplish is, use the crappy eBay projector to accept the maxima's D2R bulb. I saw it mentioned on a website that was selling those "eBay projector headlamps"

The 2002/3 HID headlights do not have projectors, they are reflector setups.

The eBay projector headlight already has the shroud and hole in it already, if you bought a 2002 headlight you'd have a more custom work to do than making a TSX projector fit in.

meh i hope you know he has to modify those projectors, and probably replace them w/ better ones b/c they suck ***, the hid's dont fit in the crappy projectors, output blows, and the hid bulb is too long, did i mention the output sucks?

I guess best thing to do for you is to buy a 02 or 03 housing unless someone comes in this thread w/ some good info.

Guys, I know about the differences of automotive lighting. I've been reading about it since 2003.

My question was, can I wire the crappy ebay headlamps to use the maxima's D2R bulb? If not, oh well I'll try something else.

No go try something else like reading dr roy's write you.

as of now you have 2 options, retrofitting the ebay projectors with RX300 HID projectors or buying OEM headlamps, but they might come with unecessary parts I.E. ballast IF i were you i'd read up on dr roy's retro order the Bosch Projectors from HIDplanet and do the damn thing, you'll be 20 times more happier than having the stupid OEM reflectors.

I dug up this link:

I want to explore my options, before I start wasting money or cutting into these eBay projectors.

Nice of you to post my page. There is a section where I talk about how 02/03 owners have somewhat of an advantage because the electronics for powering the projectors already exists. Keep in mind that this is only in theory. If you're willing to invest in the time and money, then great. If not, then someone else can try it. I do have to update that paragraph because I overlooked one item while I was explaining this theory to someone else.

I would invest any time I have to make this work, but I do not want to go at this alone.

02/03 has a slight advantage because there are spots to mount ballasts and other items in factory locations. This is not a huge problem for 00/01's because there is plenty of space.
