Low engine oil rattling noise could be linked to SES light "cam position sensor"?

Lately I have a pinging/rattling noise under deacceleration at very low rpms. I did research on some old threads and realized I was low on oil. I filled up a quart and the noise is now gone. So Im pretty sure that was the culprit. However, 2 days ago the Service Engine Soon light came up. I didnt think it would be related to the rattling noise because the sounded exhaust-like. I got the diagnostic test done and it turns out I have a faulty camshaft position sensor. Im going to get it replaced tomorrow.

Is it possible that the camshaft position sensor problem is related to the rattling noise (which is now gone)? I tried searching but I see no relation between the two. thanks

i dont think its related.
you probably know all this but.....
the rattle you heard was the timing change. the tensioner uses oil pressure to work. when your oil is low, the tensioner cant work right so the chain isnt kept tight and it rattles against the tensioner and cover

had mine done a long-long time ago.
No issues though -- did it with less than 20k on the clock.
Doubt it is the cause or solution to the chain rattle.....

update: I printed out the paper with the recall info but b/c it was not from a Nissan site, the service tech paid no attention to it. He even looked it up and according to Nissan, there was no open recall for my car. So I walked out. I hate dealers, and now even more so. Btw, I have friends who got the recall for the CPS done from Nissan.

So I bought both CPS sensors..bank 1 and bank 2 and had my mechanic install it. He did a diagnostic afterwards and it was clean =).

As far as the rattling noise goes. I have accepted the fact that I burn oil. Realistically I should be adding oil in myself then periodically when I see the level is low correct? I guess theres really no need for synthetic anymore right?

I am having the same problem, I would say at this rate syn is a waste, it just burns. As far as the rattling, how much was the sensors? I have the rattling and even when the oil level is topped off, the rattle is still there. It sounds like I am using bad gas, but I use 93/chveron.

thanks.
