Any special toold required to replace ball joints.

Hey guys, I need to replaced both ball joints on my 2k1 maxima, I called the Nissan stealer and they said I have to replaced the entire lower arm control wich is not that expensive ( 100$ each side ) I found a place that sell just the ball joints for the 2k1 maxima for like 40$ canadian, a 60$ save per side compare to replace both lower arm. Do I need special tool to remove the crappy ball joint ? Does any one have instruction or a write up ?

To my knowledge, Nissan don't sell just the ball joints by itself. You are better off replacing the whole control arm with Original Nissan Parts if you plan to keep the car for a while. Aftermarket ball joints will not last that long and you will spend more time and money to buy the parts and align the car when you have to replace them again.

It's been a while since I last heard of you, how are you doing btw...

I know the dealer wont bothers replacing ball joints, but you can actually replace them, they only cost 39$ cdn each, but for 95$ cdn each the lower control arm come with the ball joints so I'll just order both lower arm.

Thanks Budy.

Yes, you need a ball joint fork and a BIG hammer.

For example:

I already have few forks so I'm going to give it a try tonight, if I screw it up no big deal, I'll just replace the entire lower arm on both side.

Thank you guys.

you shouldn't have to do an alignment if you use nissan control arms (recomended). If you want to save yourself $30 you should have bought aa cheaper car. They have locating pins so no alignment issues.

I'm not shure what you are trying to say...I'm rebuilding my car, I'm not trying to save 30$ I dont know where you get that Idea. Basically I've dismental the front of the car and will be sandblasting the engine compartment in order to make a custom paint, now in the path are multiple parts that I will be sandblasting too, now some of these parts will be powder coated, some chromed and some other painted. I've removed both lower control arm, they where pretty rusted but structurally in good condition, and because I'll be repainting those I dont see a point of buying brand new lower arm to sandblast which take about 2-3 hours per side, then repaint them again, see my point.
