Idle trouble....

I have an 02 SE with an Injen cold air intake. My car idles between 200 and 300 rpms and feels like it wants to stall but doesn't. My friend scanned the car for me to see and the scanner didn't detect anything so he unplugged the MAF to test if the MAF sensor is bad and the car shut off. My friend says it's suppose to do that if it's working properly. Has anyone else gone through the same thing and know what the problem is?

your throttle plate is probably gummed up and at idle it does not leave enough air go through. You need a throttle chamber/plate service and an idle air relearn after that should fix it.

You might have an air leak after the MAF.

ya id say either an air leak or a clog somewhere. run a compression check on it.

a leakafter MAF most of the times would give you a mil light. But if you just got the issue and it's not real time it has to go through it's cycle to set. So that could be possible too.

You can't do a compression check. That would take more than 3 hours to remove the plenum to get to the plugs. A compression test would tell you basicly if your motor is worn or more exactly your piston rings. It has nothing to do with bogging.

while I agree doing a compression test would be pointless for this situation, it most certainly doesn't take 3 hours to get to the rear plugs. The first time I did it, it took about 35 minutes to take it off and that was going slow inspecting every angle making sure I didn't mess anything up. Now I can do it in about 15 minutes or less (about 5 on my car since I left the rear mount bolts off)

I also have a low idle (~450) and it's been bugging the crap out of me with the vibration. Sometimes when I'm sitting it traffic I'll lay my foot on the throttle very slightly and bump it up to 750 and enjoy a smooth idle It's gonna be a $98 diagnostic fee at the dealer to even attempt to raise the idle with the consult, so I've just dealt with it, but yours is just too low. If you find a cure, please post how you did it. Thanks.

Well I remember last year when I first had the idle problem. I checked my spark plugs and found out the middle rear spark plug had oil in it...bad coil so I had that replaced thinking that was the problem but little did I know my car had a recall on the transmission sensor I believe....that caused the car to shuf off every time I was at a stop. Got that fixed the idle was back to normal for about 2 weeks and then my idle dropped back down to 250 or so. The only way I can get my car to idle at 400 without slightly pressing on the gas is by turning the aircondition on.

yes sir. I did the ECU reset procedure, IAVL, accel. pedal release position, throttle closed position, and all that mess with no luck. It started before I began messing with my IM and I'm pretty sure there are no leaks. Not sure what can cause the stupid thing to randomly idle low but I'd love to get it fixed...if I drive to Az this summer, mind if I stop off and use uprev real quick?
