Update:Help!! Broke down on the freeway

So I'm in the fast lane at about 75mph, and all of the sudden, as if I was out of gas, my car started to sputter in fifth gear (wouldn't accelerate or anything) So I down shifted to fourth, and that worked for about 20 seconds, and the same thing, and so forth and so forth until I was pulling off the freeway onto the off ramp. At that point the car completely stalled, and wouldn't start back up. Wierd thing is that it cranks like it has power, lights all work and gas light was not on yet, but i was close to empty. After sitting there for about 10 minutes I tried to start it again, and it started. As soon as I tried driving a little further off the ramp, it shut off again (The second time I did this (start it back up again) it shut off right when I turned my headlights on. The first time, which I'm talking about right now, I'm not sure if I turned the headlights on) Anyone who may know ANY reason for this to happen please help. I've heard things like fuel filter, to alternater, but I have now clue. I don't want to get jacked at the dealership, I have a wedding in 5 days and it's terrible timing. Please help.

I'm no expert on this situation, but one possibility could be that you somehow got some bad gas.

If you did, then a liquid slightly lighter than the gas could have been floating on top of the gas. The fuel pump removes gas from near the the bottom of the tank, so things went well until the level of the gas became low enough that whatever was floating on top was sucked in by the fuel pump.

But that is strictly a stab in the dark.

Possibly cam or crank sensors.

I had one for the p0430, catalytic below effiecency threshold, and there was another that I saw pop up one time that said "manufacturer controlled transmission" but I have no clue of what that is, and can't find it here

Fuel pump, you sure, or just a stab in the dark? If your sure, do you have any idea of the cost? 115,000 is enough for a fuel pump to go out?

that's what happened to me when my fuel pump went out.

I was driving on freeway, car just shut off. Put it in neutral, start the car, pull it into D and keep on driving.

I got panicked at first since there's no power for steering wheel and brake. But the I figured out to put it in N and start the car............

(I've had the same thing happen to me.)

Let me guess, you have about an 1/8th of a tank left...you hit the gas....powers like normal.....then sudden drop off...

Basically, you got water in your tank that has built up over time (bad gas)....so much water, that it is making the gauge show that you have 1/8th of a tank left (estimation)...

The good news is.....this is a simple fix...

Just go buy a can of "Seafoam" from your local autoparts store (i.e. Advanced Auto, O'Reiley's, ect) for $6 bucks, and put half of it in your gas tank.

Later on, if you feel comfortable doing it, you can use the other half-can to run it through your "brake booster line"...

Here is a How to Video on how to do this job...

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=508545

Try this first, and then go from there....

But I suspect this could be your problem......(if not, then your next step would be the fuel pump)

Hope this helps!

So suprisingly, everyone was wrong. I ended up having a P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor Malfunction. I guess everytime the engine warmed up the sensor would short and cause the car to stall out. Sensor fixed and works fine now. Sensor was $90 labor $60. Suprised to see a sensor just fail like that. Hope it doesn't happen again.
