flywheel reinforcement plate on aftermarket flywheels

flywheel reinforcement plate on aftermarket flywheels

i was lookin on the 03 fsm and it shows a flywheel reinforcement plate on the stock flywheel. has anyone using an aftermarket flywheel used this? is it necessary?

The 3.5 has a dual mass flywheel where the friction surface moves slightly to smooth out the action. I've had it apart several times and don't know about a reinforcement plate.

I have the fidanza and it doesn't have anything like that either.

So when you bolted your flywheel up you just put the bolts through the flywheel it self. No little ring or washer to go before the bolts?

No, just the bolts. I can't remember if the individual bolts had lockwashers on them but I think so. There was no round piece with bolt holes through it on either flywheel.

Here are some pics of the stock flywheel if they help in any way. I was going to sell it but I haven't gotten around to it yet. If you look at the pictures you'll see that there's no way you could put anything between the bolts and the flywheel because of how the moving friction plate is mounted. You can also see the marks left by the individual bolt heads.
