P0455 and P1448 MAX Gods what do I do??

So I just relocated from Tucson, AZ to Goldsboro, NC. On the first leg of the trip from Tucson to Louisiana my SES light came on. Took it to the local Autozone and they told me it was a P0300, possible misfire. So I came on the org to find out that if it doesn't happen again everything is probably fine. From Louisiana I towed the car behind me all the way to Goldsboro, NC. I've been here about 2 weeks with no problems. So I get in the car yesterday to take my son to school and when I start the car I get the orange light of death again. Dropped the kid off and headed straight for the local Autozone. This time they pull 2 codes 455, and 1448. I looked up the codes and it doesn't go into any great detail. The first code is P0455 - EVAP Control System Gross Leak. The second one is P1448 - EVAP Canister Vent Control Valve Open. So I guess what I'm wondering is if this is something that I will have to take the car strictly to the dealer for. Just wondering if anyone could help me out a little. Thanx again for your help. ICE

Sounds like you have to replace the vent control valve. alot of times these are seized to the charcol canister ( underneath left rear right behind wheel) so you will probly have to end up buying the valve and the canister, there not hard to do takes 30-60 min. other possible causes, evap pressure sensor, plugged hose to vent valve, vacume cut valve or water seperator. remove the vent control valve and hook power make sure it is functioning if so proceed to another source or if your lucky it isnt working.

One more question, is this something that I have to do right away? Or can I ride this out for a little while??

keep in mind that the SES light is for emissions problems (not actual engine problems).
if you drive with the light on, emissions will be effected but you wont do any harm to the engine.

I did not know that. Thanks for the info. Another thing I noticed today was that exhaust gases, heat, etc. are only coming from one tip. Is that supposed to happen or is it clogged somewhere? I thought that I seen a thread about that a few months back but couldn't find it anywhere. The search came up empty on it and I don't have too much time to sit on a computer until I get mine household goods from the shipping people. I'm only worried b/c both tips have carbon deposits in the same place but at idle exhaust only comes out of one. Is something clogged somewhere??

our mufflers are variable...at idle, it only comes out of the right side. at a certain RPM, the left one opens up.
its the pressure that opens it up...not the actual RPMs

My car had the same codes according to Autozone and they told me to replace the gas cap b/c even though it looked fine, it had internal failure and won't seal properly. I went to the stealer and bought a genuine cap for about $11. The light turned itself off (Autozone did not turn it off) after driving for about 200 miles.

true a gas cap can cause an evap system code but its an evap system small leak code. the gross leak and vent control valve code point to another cause here. at least you got off with an easy fix though.

Although I agree with you regarding the vent control valve, Nissan states that the following reasons could cause a p0455 (gross leak). Note the first and third reason:

Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close.

Incorrect fuel tank vacuum relief valve

Incorrect fuel filler cap used

Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap.

Leak is in line between intake manifold and EVAP canister
purge volume control solenoid valve.

Foreign matter caught in EVAP canister vent control valve.

EVAP canister or fuel tank leaks

EVAP purge line (pipe and rubber tube) leaks

EVAP purge line rubber tube bent.

Blocked or bent rubber tube to EVAP control system pressure
sensor

Loose or disconnected rubber tube

EVAP canister vent control valve and the circuit

EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve and the
circuit

Absolute pressure sensor

Fuel tank temperature sensor

O-ring of EVAP canister vent control valve is missing or damaged.

Anyone know where to buy the replacements for cheaper than Dealership?

Canister & vent valve that is.

I've got the same codes a few weeks ago and I just replaced the gas cap. Even if it looks good on the outside it could have internal failure. The SES light cleared by itself after driving for a while. Make sure you get a genuine Nissan gas cap that runs for about $11.

the p0455 code often is one of the dumbest things...tightening your gas cap. when you dont give the gas cap a full 3 clicks, sometimes you will get the SES light (p0455 code). just go outside and undo your gas cap and close it again but make sure to use like 5 clicks. For me the SES light ends up going away in like 30 min of driving. hopefully same happens for you
