LED tails.

ok guys, i'm thinking of making LED tails for myself. My cousin is a mod-aholic, and he's really good w/ elec. aspect of it. I will make a set, and show progress pics to show quality and we're thinking of making a bunch of these. I'm just wondering if anyone would be interetsed. As fas as price goes, we're not sure yet, but i will advise.

we're basically going to start with this tail ***'y but maybe in the future, we can use other tail designs.

Let me know.

I figure I would bump your post and maybe someone could help me out with this.

I just installed the 3 ohm loaders to make the blinkers flash normal, but I still have the |B/8| light on in my odometer. Anyone help me fix this?

Thanks in advance.

It just stays on now im sure there is a search for it but I cant search for it yet being a newbie. If you're looking at the dash board its way left and its the light sign. It looks like |B / 8|. I know it cant just always stay lit now.

I did "cut" the green wire in half on the right side...and just connected both wires to the loader. Do you think I have to reattach the green wires then wrap the loader wire around that? I just attached the green wire that I split on that side to the loader separate not together. I am thinking that may be it?

I dont kno...I just know it blinks correctly now. That was what I was going for until I started driving.

Cheers

that comes on if one of the brake/tail lights is out (not the blinker). its the bulbs with two filaments (one for brake and one for parking).
didnt you just do the blinker bulbs? if so, this is unrelated. check the other bulbs

Im assuming you are saying the bulbs are out by saying check the bulbs? I just put brand new bulbs in and had everything unconnected before messing with the wires...hmmm sounds fishy...

And yes I accidently cut through the green wire and didnt reattach it to it self, instead just connected it apart from one another on the loader wire. I am assuming this is wrong.

took a quick nap. I changed the wire so now its like "one" again and then reattached the ohm. It still has that light sign on the dash. Also it was really hot after I stopped playing around with it. Are these supposed to get that hot?

Cheers

Yeah, good luck selling them..I know there are people who will be interested. But they will not to pay jack for them and will also want you to ship them for free.

My Advice: Don't offer to others it not woth the hassel just be unique and let people say WOW i have never seen that before.

not to be a jerk or anything but maybe you should speak for yourself. i dont want anything shipped to me for free and i would be willing to pay a very reasonable price for something that is of great quality. so if he wants to sell something to a group of people because of the only competeing product is of lack luster quality then let him do his thing. IMO i would create the way to make it. tally up the cost of parts and labor, then tell people who want them to buy the taillights off of ebay and pay him his fee to convert the tails into the LED tails that he is creating.

Unfortunately the cost of making them, the time required to make them is time consuming. I got some interest for the tails I made a couple months back but they all fell through.

Used high quality lumileds and the results still get me compliments.

ok so since it seems as though this takes alot of time and money to do. what do i need to just put some bright LED bulbs in the taillights? i saw on autolumination that they had some butterfly style ledlights that fold up to fit into the hole for the taillight. anyone ever tried those?

Step 1: Buy replacement bulb.
Step 2: Install replacement bulb.
Step 3 (optional): Install load resistor or flasher relay
Step 4: Enjoy!

That is not what i asked. i was asking what all i needed to do it besides the bulb as in what size load resistor. i'm not gonna do the turn signals right now.

after we get all the parts, and see how much time is envolved, we will calculate everything, only then will we know what they will cost. I'm hoping to be below $300.

ok, i have the design ready, and they will be plug and play. My design will not be ricey at all, and it will be something you all would never expect. It will be very OEM looking. I won't reveal the design, so wait for pics.

Will these be ready to sell at or before Maxus in Chicago? I'm local and may be interested but prefer the 00-01 SE taillight instead of the chrome/clear! Keep us posted!

Okay, since I was kind of an *** before, I might as well try and help out

Checking in the FSM for 2002 Maxima's they use a combination flasher relay (just like my Spec V). So, you should be able to find the relay, and replace it with a flasher relay from here:
http://autolumination.com/equalizers.htm

now, it might be the EP34 relay, but, since I don't have a Maxima and Zero2sixtyZ's Maxima is in repair, I really can't check for you.

But in the FSM, their flasher relay has pins B, L and E, the same as the EP34 flashing relay on autolumination. That is the same relay I used in my car, so there is a good chance that it is.

Now, "where is the flasher relay?" you ask...

It will be a black or brown box to the right of your fuse box in the car. To make sure, pull apart under your steering wheel, and turn your blinkers on. The little box that is clicking, thats your flashing relay. Pull it out, replace it and tape it up because the new relay won't fit in the case that Nissan has there.

This is a MUCH better fix than those stupid load resistors. The load resistors heat up like a bulb and you need to keep it away from anything that can melt. Screw that, the relay is a better and more permanent solution.

Note: you can still use incandescent/halogen bulbs with this relay, there won't be an issue.
