Warranty Question

I am looking at purchasing an 02 SE 6 speed. Judging from the Carfax, it looks like the car was titled in 9/02. Even though I'd be the third owner, does that mean the powertrain warranty should be in affect until 9/07?

Would a call to the local Nissan dealership with a VIN number get that answer as well?

Thanks.....

im not really sure on the answer but i think the orginal owner would have to sign over the warrenty to the 2nd owner. That 2nd owner would have do it to you, then you would have the warrenty, whatever is remaining. I think thats how it works. Not 100% sure on it. If they do give it to you, then i would abuse the hel l out of powertrain warrenty and do whatever in my power to **** the nissan dealer because we all know nissan doesnt care about their customers.

factory warranties do not have to be "signed over".

How long is my Nissan's warranty and what does it cover?

The Nissan New Vehicle Limited Warranty's coverage is 36 months/36,000 miles. Powertrain coverage is 5 years/60,000 miles.

When does the warranty on my Nissan begin?

The warranty period begins on the date the vehicle is delivered to the first retail buyer or put into use, whichever comes first.

Well put sooner, you also always carry an 8yr/80,000 mile emissions warranty. Be careful as certain OBDII codes are only covered by warranty. Make sure to run it for any current codes.

I agree, only extended warranties need to be transfered if it's transferable.

All warranties that come with the car go with the car regardless of the number of owners. The only exception is an extended service plan which is usually transferable to other owners for a small fee. They all go into affect on the date that the vehicle was first put into service. This is your warranty start date.

There are other warranties in addition to the basic warranty and powertrain warranty. There are are actually TWO different emissions warranties on all cars. The Federal Emissions warranty covers the federally mandated emissions components. The other (Perfermance Emissions warranty) covers components in the case emissions components fail an emissions test. The two emissions warranties are for different components, periods of time and mileage.

In addition, you also have a corrosion perforation warranty which covers the vehicle if corrosion which starts from the inside of the sheet metal and works its way out and causes a hole. You also have tire warranty which is provided by the tire manufacturer. This warranty's length of time and mileage varies by the tire manufacturer.

Get a copy of the owners manual to get the specifics. One of the biggest mistakes I've seen owners make in my many years in the car business is not reading their owners manual.

like i said...it isnt covered. it doesnt matter whats wrong with it.
exhaust parts go bad over time so they are considered a "wear item".

if you still had the bumper to bumper warranty left, it MIGHT be covered
