Got OEM CF Hood, now further options?

Ok, so I have a VIS OEM Carbon Fiber hood waiting at the body shop. Hood pins are ordered (Aerocatch latch pins). Now, I have a dilemma. I park my car on the street a lot, so I don't want it to attract too much attention. I went CF for the weight, but also like the look of it in moderation. Basically, heres my question: Should I paint this hood completely, leave it all exposed or a mix?

I'll post some ideas via quick drawings in Flash soon.

Please have mercy on me for my ignorance, but my question is how can a carbon fiber hood be OEM?

Regardless, stealth is always the best way to go if you're street parking. Take this advice from a former resident of Brooklyn, NY which has the highest auto insurance rates in the U.S.A.

i think leave it, it would be too noticeable because you have a dark car so it'll blend in sort off, anyway thats how i would do it.

I was originally thinking of having the whole hood painted except for those two indented lines that go from almost the back towards the top corners of the grille. Opinions?

I'm sorry I didn't clarify that in the first post. It is an OEM style, meaning no vents or ports or anything like that. Smooth and exactly like OEM look, just in carbon fiber.

.... Although it's been done too many times that is the best look. Then again I haven't seen any other ideas on painting it.

Make sure you pin the hood, the saftey latch is only fiberglass. Mine came up at 10mph when I was leaving my house and it ripped right through it. Also the vibrations from the wind on the freeway has a tendency to crack the mold around the latch bar. When you get it on you will see the hood flex and bounce around at 60+mph.

Yeah, they are already ordered. I got the Aerocatch Hood pins/latches. They don't look like normal pins. I purchased them from deftracing.com. Check them out, they even impressed the body shop & tuner shop here.

Completely painted with flush hood pins looks best IMO. It also deters thieves and cops.

I completely understand your concern with making your car more noticable, around here people are victims to CF hoods being stolen so what i recommend is to paint the sides and either leave a side stripe or a dual stripe up the middle of the CF showing that would look pretty sleek with the black of your car...

i personally am going to go with the painted sides and CF in the middle. it is the best look even though kind of over done.

IMO, in terms of "rice" level, leaving a stripe in the middle is worse.

Agreed, the whole carbon fiber looks really good on a dark car but all painted is cool too.

a carbon hood on a black car is VERY hard to see.

Look at mine. And it's not even black.

i say keep the carbon fiber look, expecially on a black car, it will blend but not clash and also flaunt that ****, you payed alot of money for a cf hood now make it look good. i know i would.

im seeing alot of people say to paint some portions of the hood and leave some cf stripes or some like that, you bought the carbon fiber hood oem style and you should keep it that way, i cannot stress anymore on how dumb and ricey i think your car would look if you painted some weird design on it, you have a powerful vq not a janky d16 honda with a fart can. keep the all carbonfiber look. i promise it will look better.

Do you have any idea what you're talking about?

Zero2sixtyZ, choose the option that you like the most. You will be unhappy if you build your car the way others want it.

Thanks guys, and warrior, I know this, don't worry. I would never let an opinion on any forum make my mind, but I do welcome others insight and ideas, so thats why I made this thread. At this point, I'm leaning towards leaving it full CF and maybe if I change my mind later on, I can go ahead and get it painted. We'll see how it goes. If anyone has anymore ideas, drop them here. Thanks everyone!

my vote is for keeping the CF alone,..like max boost said, it will be pretty hard to notice..

if your worried about theft maybe look into getting a nice alarm?

I would just paint the hood. I like the stealth look, where no-one knows whats coming. Personally, just painted looks really good, stock, and with like "sleeper" potential.

The prob with painting a CF hood is they are not pefectly smooth so you will pay just as much money to smooth it as it will cost to put the paint down. do what you like look around, get some ideas and run with it.

P.S. If they really want it a alarm wont help, they'll get it no matter what. Just Lo Jack it so if they take the whole damn thing you can get it back ASAP (I have a Lo Jack system). I cant find where mines at and I always have my car apart.

MaximaPolak, I saw your car, and yours was actually the one to convince me to stay exposed CF. I'll be somewhat closer with black housing headlights soon.

I think that middle painted is nice, but not for me. I would either paint the sides and keep the middle painted, or fully paint it, leaving the two indent lines CF. But as of now, the hood will remain exposed CF.

leave it unpainted, untill you get tired of it, then once you paint it you'll fall in love alllll over again....you get two mods over time.haha either way looks nice.

Also wouldn't people notice you have a CF hood with the hood pins anyways??? I guess it depends on the color of the pins but most people that would want to steal it know what the pins are for...a CF hood. just a thought. good luck! post pics!

Sounds like a good idea to me....If you have hood pins they're going to know so why bother painting it.
