5th Gen Purchase

Hello Gents,
First time on this board. Currently have 1-4th Gen and 2-3rd Gen Max's. Getting ready to upgrade to a 5th Gen and have a few questions regarding GLE's:

1) If you all had to do it over what year car would you buy?
2) Is there a significant improvement of an 03 over an 00?
3) What year has the least troublesome auto trans?
4) I'm looking at gray and silver colors with leather interior. What color is the easiest to maintain?
5) The O1's with 70K or less are going for about 7,000-10,000K. The O3's with 40-50K are going for 14,000-17,000. Are these fair prices?
6) What are the weakness' in the 5th gens? What would be the first thing you check or replace if you bought one now?

Thanks guys!

1) If you all had to do it over what year car would you buy?
2003 WHITE MAX, SE Titanium Edition - They look the BEST! IMO

2) Is there a significant improvement of an 03 over an 00?
3.5L engine is a BIG improvement, HID headlights, nicer looking bumpers and grill

3) What year has the least troublesome auto trans?
I think as far as tranny goes, the MAX has a nice tranny in all Gens.

4) I'm looking at gray and silver colors with leather interior. What color is the easiest to maintain?
If you maintain it properly, any color would work. But white looks NICE!

5) The O1's with 70K or less are going for about 7,000-10,000K. The O3's with 40-50K are going for 14,000-17,000. Are these fair prices?
Pretty much

6) What are the weakness' in the 5th gens? What would be the first thing you check or replace if you bought one now?
The BOSE Head unit. Also fogs glass cracks from rock chips.

As far as weaknesses, all cars have them.. its all about personal preference.

8k is about right for the 00-01, 12-13k is about right for the 02-03.
stealerships are awful about prices on maximas these days.

00-01 automatics are SLOW.

02-03 are VERY fast (both auto and manual)

i cant find any locally that are worth the asking price from a decent dealership that have what im looking for...im having to wait it out.

1) If you all had to do it over what year car would you buy?
2002/2003 SE, Maybe Titanium Edition

2) Is there a significant improvement of an 03 over an 00?
3.0 to 3.5???

3) What year has the least troublesome auto trans?
I wouldn't know.

4) I'm looking at gray and silver colors with leather interior. What color is the easiest to maintain?
Silver is a very classy color and probably easier than darker colors. Not sure if you prefer cloth or leather.

5) The O1's with 70K or less are going for about 7,000-10,000K. The O3's with 40-50K are going for 14,000-17,000. Are these fair prices?
Not sure off hand, but check with Kelley Blue Book.

6) What are the weakness' in the 5th gens? What would be the first thing you check or replace if you bought one now?
Alternator, coils, spark plugs, wheel bearing, battery, MAF, tires, and B-pipe.

regarding GLE's:

1) If you all had to do it over what year car would you buy?
02-03 grey lustre black leather interior
2) Is there a significant improvement of an 03 over an 00?
Because we are strickly talking about GLEs, I would say yes. More power, faster, HID lights, bunch of little features, sharper interior. Big improvement.
3) What year has the least troublesome auto trans?
Neither AT between 5th and 5.5 gen has been particularly problematic.
4) I'm looking at gray and silver colors with leather interior. What color is the easiest to maintain?
Silver is, was, and will continue to be the easiest color to keep "looking clean". I just choose the grey lustre because I think it's sharper, and there are fewer of them in my area.
5) The O1's with 70K or less are going for about 7,000-10,000K. The O3's with 40-50K are going for 14,000-17,000. Are these fair prices?
Yes.
6) What are the weakness' in the 5th gens? What would be the first thing you check or replace if you bought one now?
Ignition Coils, VIAS, been a few alternators recently... For the 5.5 gen, oil burning has been the biggest concern... however not so much in the GLE. It seems to be more of the 6 speeds that are driven hard... and it's still only a few of them. Other than that, the MAF on the 5.5 gen is also delicate.

Hope this helps.

4) I'm looking at gray and silver colors with leather interior. What color is the easiest to maintain?
I have a gray it is easy to maintain..silver would be nice too, reflects over some dust and dirt

5) The O1's with 70K or less are going for about 7,000-10,000K. The O3's with 40-50K are going for 14,000-17,000. Are these fair prices?

1) If you all had to do it over what year car would you buy?
2001 Silver 20th Anniversary with manual and black leather
2003 Titanium Edition with black leather and 6sp
those are my all time favorite maximas current I am looking for an 2003 maxima as descriped above just for a project car and when I do get it, it will be a total tear down and rebuild to make it all complete

2) Is there a significant improvement of an 03 over an 00?
Engine gets more power equals bigger smile

3) What year has the least troublesome auto trans?
they all are very good, the biggest recommendation is to put a tranny cooler on it and then go from there, autos do the VB mod and torque converter (shift kit and all that good stuff), manuals do the flywheel and clutch

4) I'm looking at gray and silver colors with leather interior. What color is the easiest to maintain?
Silver shows less dirt plus doesn't show scratches, IMO i hated the cream leather interior on the maximas but I also hated how bad the black leather would look after it aged

5) The O1's with 70K or less are going for about 7,000-10,000K. The O3's with 40-50K are going for 14,000-17,000. Are these fair prices?
be patient when searching, and when you do go to look at one the dealers are going to be willing to get these off there hands they like to move used cars fast cause they don't like them to sit for too long or it looks bad but these cars do sell themselves (I should know I lived with a car salesman all my life hahaha), so the 2003 prices are a little high but the 00-01 prices are just right.

6) What are the weakness' in the 5th gens? What would be the first thing you check or replace if you bought one now?
Ignition coils, O2 sensors and MAF sensor are the weakest links
some say the bose system, but I like mine plus I find doing a sub in a car adds weight and I also find that taking apart the dash so many times, thats made of plastic has a tendency to bend and eventually break its only a matter of time...so if you do decide to do a sound system, wait it your ready with everything you want to do under the dash like gauges and what not and do it all at once, and for those of you who object to say that the bose system isn't all that clear and its a weak link, I am a radio DJ and i love music and i think its fine the way it is but its all a matter of opinion
another thing is to maybe sound dampen with fatmat or what not as you might have read alot on the forums

1) If you all had to do it over what year car would you buy? 2003 Silver or White SE Titanium Edition Auto with black leather
2) Is there a significant improvement of an 03 over an 00? 3.5 engine 255hp over 222hp in 00-01 or 227 in 01 AE,
3) What year has the least troublesome auto trans? Pretty much fair across the board, depending on how you drive and maintain em.
4) I'm looking at gray and silver colors with leather interior. What color is the easiest to maintain? Silver would be the easiest to maintain as far as not showing dirt when it does get dirty, but White looks sharp and bright when clean of course, and black or majestic blue shines like a mirror but shows dust and dirt easily when it does get dirty. Overall, I would say it's all preference in what color you like!
5) The O1's with 70K or less are going for about 7,000-10,000K. The O3's with 40-50K are going for 14,000-17,000. Are these fair prices? Reasonable fair prices, of course you still have room to negotiate as well!
6) What are the weakness' in the 5th gens? What would be the first thing you check or replace if you bought one now? Brakes/Rotors! Upgrade to a better braking system at least in the front! And drivers seat leather in 00-01 seems to be a weak point as it tears on the lower left for some reason! (Maybe I rub my a$$ too much when I slide in my Max)

5) The O1's with 70K or less are going for about 7,000-10,000K. The O3's with 40-50K are going for 14,000-17,000. Are these fair prices? yes...depends on options
