Sticky gas pedal

My grandfather has a 2000 GXE. The gas pedal has recently become sticky, but only sometimes. It is never sticky in reverse, with the engine off, or in park. It only starts to stick after I've been cruising a little bit, and I believe after I've applied the brake. It is nearly impossible to reproduce, very intermittent (maybe will happen 2x a trip), and with varying stickiness (sometimes to the point where I have to push pretty hard to touch off).

I think I got it to stick once in my neighborhood, and I pulled over to manually move the throttle and cruise control cable. Both cables moved freely, and the pedal moved freely after my attempt. Since it's so hard to reproduce this problem, I'm not even entirely sure that it was sticky when I did that test.

The throttle body has been cleaned to a shine by my trusted mechanic, so I'm fairly certain that's not the cause. I'm at a loss, any ideas?

Check the butterfly for your throttle cable. See where ur RPM's are at when in park and when in drive. You should idle at 800 and 625 respectively. I had a problem where my accelerator felt like it was stuck and I had to practically kick the thing to move it. The butterfly for the throttle assembly wasnt set to its normal setting after my ECU and IACV was replaced (basically it was sitting too far from the actuator plate causing its range of motion to be larger than it should of been). Its easy to alter and mess around with if you have a standard set of tools. Hope this helps and if not... WD-40 the hell out of the pedal maybe its rusted up on the inside.

Thanks for the suggestions. Hopefully I'll be able to play around with it this week and report back.
