Does turning off the air conditioner make a diff. in performance???

My research tells me if you get a UDP (Under-drive pulley) it makes up for the difference in what your A/C consumes. The UDP provides just enough extra HP (actually frees it up) that it compensates for the loss of power.

mdeal's right that the UDP should make up for the lost HP.
Contrary to what Random Tech says it does effect the A/C a bit. Doesn't get quite as cold and takes longer to cool down a hot car.
Some cars, like a previous Saturn SC2, turn off the compressor when you punch it. Very nice feature.

Supposedly, the 5th gen's ECU will turn off the AC at WOT as well. So, if you really get on it, you don't have to fumble with the switch yourself. [/I][/QUOTE]
Yes, I believe my 2k has an AC cutout relay when at WOT.
As an aside, I dyno tested my last car, a VW VR6 with and without the AC on. With the AC on, it lost about 7 hp at the wheels.

So according to ander's claim...

Or as in madmax2k's case...a UDP would add 7hp to the wheels?

I looked at Unorthodox Racing's website, http://www.unorthodoxracing.com, and saw an application listed. The "Ultra S" is the one.
Here is a direct link to the application list: http://www.unorthodoxracing.com/nissans.html
I'm gonna get one when some funds free up. If nothing else, it will look cool when I'm down there changing the oil filter.
