Idle Problem

Wow, It has been a while since I posted but I am back (if only for a short time before I get sent BACK to Iraq AGAIN). I just had a question I wanted to ask, see if any of you gear heads that are more mechanic than I could help me with.

The issue is that the car, when idling idles fine for a while then after about 60 seconds takes a dive and if I don't gas it, stalls. A friend hinted at ignition coils, but that's an expensive prospect. Anyone second his diagnosis or maybe have any other ideas?

Another side item is I need a new clutch. Recc's? I was going to go for a spec stage 2 or 2+.

Don't have the answer, but try new fuel filter (pain in the butt to change, though), air filter, pcv valve, throttle body cleaning. However, many on here have had issues after cleaning the throttle plates. I did mine a yr ago and got no issues, either got lucky or was more careful, but made a point NOT to spray ANYTHING into the body and let nothing past the plate. Maybe try fuel injector cleaner into your tank as well. I have a van that ran crappy and tripping codes on injectors and hit it up w/ some BG44K cleaner and cleared it up. It's strong stuff and probably not that good to use very often, but my van is old and I don't have a lot of cards to play on that thing so I tried it and it worked. Many recommend Chevron Techron, which I have used in my Max as well, since it is good cleaner but not so "caustic" to the engine as the BG stuff. If you have not changed fuel filter and got higher miles, it's a good idea to change that first if you dump in the fuel system cleaner since it will loosen up stuff in the tank and fill your filter so if your filter is old it will make things worse. Also, change the oil after using the stuff since that will get dirty and it's a good thing to change it after junk gets into the oil system from the cleaning.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for serving our country, even if everybody fights over the legitimacy of the Iraq war.
