Cheaper Alternative for In Cabin Microfilter?

So its that time of the year again...and was wondering if anyone on the org has found a cheaper solution than the OEM NIssan one?

If not, then does anybody have the dimension specs for our in cabin filter? I might just take those specs and walk into the local autozone and try to get the closest match for our cars...IIrc, those off the shelf filters cost like $10-$15 versus $45 from DaveB

thanks in advanced

it cost me 57 bucks for two filters @ nissan. It wasnt the cheap flimzy paper one, but it has the same microfiber filter design but with plastic mold surrounding it.

So how often should you change it. That's a little pricey for me. Might have to buy from eBay

Purolater makes one for other models that may fit the Maxima. It looks like it has the same dimensions but I'm not certain because I didn't measure it. If you are in Advance Auto or Pep Boys, you can look it up and check. I think it was about $12.

Is that Purolater filter carbon activated like the OEM filter? I'm assuming probably not but if it is that's a great price.

whats the difference between carbon and non carbon?

not sure what the puralator one is...but i've always heard GREAT things about puralator air and oil filters...BITOG guys rave about it all the time...the only downside is the price...

Ok you seem to get it, you are forgiven. Just make sure to read through your ENTIRE manual.

Most of the noobs around here REFUSE to ever look for anything themselves DON'T become one of them.

Available from nissanpartsonline.net (Springfield, MA Nissan dealer Jerry Rome's part site. You won't find it linked to their main dealer site, probably some Nissan corporate restriction on discounting parts).

Price is $34.27 with free shipping (orders totaling $25 or more).

Their site is a little awkward to track down this part. Search by Nissan part number, 999M1-VP004 to find it. I've had trouble finding some other parts on their site. However, just dropped them a message through their link. They've been good in getting back. Usually, if it's not already in their catalog, they add it and send you the part number. Then you search by number and add to cart to order.

Have ordered a number of parts from them including brakes, exhaust, and the driver's side seat drive mechanism outlined in the Nissan TIL for dead fore-aft seat movement. Reliable quick delivery to here in CT, just down the road. Maybe a couple days longer to those farther away.

the oem filter is not really reusable. once you clean it a couple of times, it will stay dirty.
the 3m filtrete filter at home depot is $14. you can make at least 4 car-sized filters for your max. i am on my second one, and it's working fine.
please don't ask for the dimensions. just take out your old one, put it up against the 3m filter, and cut around it.
i don't know which one works better in our cars, the oem or the 3m filtrete., but i am not spending $34 for a friggin oem filter.
