electrical problem: no dash lights

Hey guys, I want to see if this happened to anybody before...

Last week the left side of my climate control panel did not light up when I turned on the lights in the evening. I figured it's a bad bulb that needs to be replaced. The right side lit up fine. I guess there are two bulbs there, one for one half, and one for the other half.
Yesterday, I was driving at dusk, and turned on my lights. The whole dash, Including the radio and all of climate control turned off as soon as the headlights kicked on.
If I turn the headlights off, the radio and the right half of climate control are fine.
I think there is a short where the original light bulb (left side of climate control) went out. I am not sure if it's there, or somewhere in my fuse panel.
Can anybody let me know if something similar has happened to them, and what to check for.
Thanks in advance.

A similar instance happened to me. I was driving, then poof all interior lights gone. All that we're showing were my headlights, no blinkers, not even sure about brake lights. Scary at 9 PM. Anyways, it was a fuse. It was located in the engine bay, on the right side next to the filter box. Check the fuses there first.

Check the dial on the left side of the steering wheel that dims the interior lights. If you have it all the way to the left (dim) position it will kill the radio, gauge and climate control lights when you turn on the headlights. You could have moved it while messing around with the bulbs.

You probably have a bulb out. You'll just have to take the controls apart and see what's going on in there.

The begining of these instructions will help you get the panel off. From there it should be simple. http://www.yourasic.com/Maxima_02-03...dio_repair.pdf
