The filter won't do anything without having a mid-pipe for it to mount to.

 

Mid pipe? being from the MAF to the TB?

I've read the sticky on intakes that's alot of time and information to sort through and I don't remember it actually answering the question are the $20 ebay filters anygood. Of course this takes a few parts will it make more power well if a K&N drop in makes more that stock and the sticky listed the best intake (for HP) as a WAI of filter and upper hardpipe then I would assume this would be better than a drop in and alot cheaper. On the other hand the quality won't be as good but hell it's only a filter what all could go wrong. The only problem I've ever had with ebay cheapo intakes were on my Hondas I had one filter fall off the metal pipe that it was glued to. Easy fix heavy strength RTV.

Hell for the price get that filter and then find another intake with the right size piping and the right kind of curve to replace the hose between the MAF and TB so you have $50 for two intakes and have a filter you can give one of your buddies for whatever POS they might have.

It's just like going to auto zone to buy yourself a filter for the stock air box. There are cheap ones that are crap (thin paper that just dirty and clog easily restricting flow) and there are quality ones...this is a cheap one. Look at the construction.

people need to stop being cheap...spend more on a better more reputable product.

 

Well that's not always a bad thing. Example: just look at the new OBX headers. Quality is there, and design is decent. More expensive/reputable != better.

 

Is there any tests on this? Dyno runs. It's still better than stock airbox in most cases and hell at that price you could replace it like it was a normal crap autozone filter and never touch the price of a "real" intake system at $150-300. Now if they didn't actually make power or were hurtfull to the engine I could see saying they are crap. They aren't the best obviously but for the price I say you can't beat that power to dollar deal. Just clean them more often

 

Well that's the thing, it probably ISNT better than stock...there are several intakes that lose a lot of power, and most gain 1-2 hp but lose low end. The ghetto airbox was actually dyno proven to gain 8whp which is the most I've seen out of an intake...best dollar/performance ratio out there. If I were to spend money on an intake, it would be a Berk.

 

I find it hard to beleive that it could have less power than stock. It has more surface area than a stock filter, it eliminates the restrictive airbox and has the piece to smooth the flow in. Never used one on a nissan but every honda I've owned it definately made a noticable difference (after H/E mods) and hondas are known for having decent air boxes. Even after 30K miles and not cleaning the filters no noticable power difference. Then putting the car back to stock that was a big difference in taking away power.

How much are the berk intakes?

 

It's easy understand if you know fluid mechanics, but that's another story. Heat soak, filter design, and placement are big factors. An intake generally changes the AFR which can either benefit a stock maxima or harm it. The stock intake is actually a fairly good design with the stock tune. When you have a cheap paper filter design, it's more restrictive no matter what the design is. In that ebay link, you can see the construction is very low quality and even new, it will not do anything for your car...hope that helped a little.

IIRC Berk intakes are around $150 but I could be wrong. If I were you I would try the GAB first. Look in the stickies and the cost is free (well...the price of a coat hanger ). I did it and liked it at first but it did seem to take a little low-end power away and that's what I like the most
