stalling problem

Hey, I just started experiencing a stalling problem. Seems to happen when I'm stopped, when I'm slowing to a stop or just as I'm about to go from a stop.

It's stalled twice on the way to the bus stop in the exact same spot, yesterday and today. So 4 times this week! Yesterday, I was a little late and didn't have time to let engine warm up but today I gave it an extra little bit to see if that would help. My car normally idles at very low RPM and it seems like it just totally drops RPMs and stalls (today was the first time I've actually seen the RPM gauge dip and just stop). My radio continues to play and my radar detector stays on, so it would seem unlikely that it's an electric issue, right?

My auto trans is on it's way out, could it be related? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated since I plan on taking it to the shop this weekend or something.

I had a similar problem. My rpms would drop around 2-3 hunderd when coming up to a stop and putting the car in neutral. My problem was actually from an o2 sensor. The shop fixed it for me and explained that the particular o2 sensor that wasnt functioning properly controlled a lot of the fuel management. I also cleaned out my throttle body to help with the rpm related issue. Everything works great now, not sure if this will help you or not, but o2 sensors could be something to check.

Did you have your O2s simulated? Did you car stall when you started warm?

Quick question for you. Were those Primary O2 sensors? I assume so, but just want to double check..
Thanks

the bad o2 sensor was the middle of the three, i forget the code that came up on it, but he said it was the middle one. replacing it with a new one took care of my problem, but to answer the warm/cold question my car was always warm and running, never stalled at idle either, just when the rpm's were on their way down to idle, then they would drop way too far and turn the car off

Good call man. Thinking I might. The shop said it was the MAF when the pulled the code, although when the car was running I never had an SES light. I picked up some MAF cleaner from Pep Boys and the car hasn't stalled yet, although today the RPMs dipped while I was driving to work. In the afternoon it was OK but since it's only $100 to get the 2k1 MAF, I might as well.

I think I'll also go back to using the paper air filters. It's been a while (like over a year) since I cleaned the K&N, I wonder if it's possible that there isn't enough oil. I took it out the other day and it was bone dry. Any thoughts on that?

Wifey drives the 00 and says she experienced this stall thing today, meanwhile for the past week its been running the p0505 code, got that from autozone, I plan on cleaning the IACV and seeing if that will solve it since it runs over 200 buxs to replace it.
Its getting 19mpg city, hope the IACV has something to do with that as I think it should be getting more.

Try having the throttle body cleaned, or cleaning it yourself
