Headlight Cleansing

Oxidation was making my headlights look rather ill.
Picked up some Meguairs PlastX polish and it worked very well. Was super-easy to do as well. Bout 20-30 mins per housing.
You can see how much grime I pulled off by polishing the clean headlight.

Wet sanding looks even better...

Gets rid of all the stone marks on the lens.

Thanks for that info, my lights were starting to get nasty as well. Did you polish that by hand? And can that polish be applied by a polisher?

I did polish by hand. Notice the applicator pad in the firt pic. I imagine it can be applied by a polisher, looks like Bluesbrekr is doing it.
It was very easy doing by hand as well. I did it twice per housing. Basically a cleaning 1st treatment and then an actual polishing second treatment.

I was wondering for some time how well that product worked, I have been wet sanding for awhile and am getting lazy. Maybe I'll try and give it a go, nice before and after pics by the way =)

Here are my headlights before wetsanding (but after PlastX):

Now after wetsanding (and an AE mod):

It takes about 30-45min per lens, depending on how pitted they are. Mine had some deeper ones and took longer, but well worth the effort.

Started with 800-->1500-->2000

Then finish with PlastX.

Thanks. Couldn't be more pleased. I don't have a whole lot of pits and didn't even have to remove the headlights. Much easier and can't see it being worth the extra effort.

The lights gook good too.
Cleaning tip: Warm suddys water wet sand them down starting with 1500 > 2000> and higher if you can find it. After you are done sanding and if you have a DA or porter cable orbital polisher clean and pollish with "Brasso".

I know it says it is for metal,,,trust me just "try it on plastic".
Try it on Anything Plastic like a scratched up CD case.

Brasso Brass Polish Eight Ounce Can $2.99

Your light will look better than the day you got the car new.
(well, if you got your car new that is)

*Also work great on iPods, iPod cases, and radio displays.

PS: You can get Brasso at your local Food Store / Super Market which most are open 24 hours. It can be found in the cleaning isle by Tar-nex and Old English and other cleaners.

I use Mother's mag and aluminium polish on my headlights and it clears them up really good. I recently wetsanded my headlights due to a chemical spill on the highway that ended up etching marks into my headlights (and front bumper) but I haven't hit them up with the porter cable yet...I gotta do that sooner or later but finals are killing me!

Here's a good write-up for wetsanding the headlights: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....79#post4528379

if it's not too bad then skip straight to 1500 then 2000. i personally think 800 is a little too tough.

Epacy... where did you get your battery tie down?

+1 for the wet sanding. Then again I tinted my headlights so I don't really need to worry about this anymore.

Just bought a bottle of Plastx today. It worked great for cleaning up the oxidization. I may try out the wet sanding as I do have some pitting. But yeah, the Plastx works great with little effort.
