Mileage Loss !!15 Mpg!! Please Help
I dont know what seems to be the problem but I have the 02 GLE max and i clocked the mileage with the trip meter MANY times and the most mpg i end up getting is 15 and i usually get about 240-250 miles per tank. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS. Ive had it looked at my mechanic, compression, he used those machines(excuse me im a noob) checked for leaks, signs of tuneup, plugs, like WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON!!! lol please help any feedback wud be GREATLY appreciated
how do you drive it, and what type of gas u put in it? i have a 03 and i put premium BP and the worst i got, it was the first week i got the car, was 19mpg that was becaus i used to burn out on every stop sign. now i get 22.4 avg
I drive a lot of short trips, I mean really short trips and drive pretty fast on the highway, but I don't think I've managed less than 18 MPG. I thought I was getting crappy gas mileage, I guess it's not as bad as I thought.

did you try any of the suggestions given to you in the newbie thread? doubt it, so here are my suggestions:
go to autozone, check for codes
check fuel injectors
check fuel lines for leaks
replace all o2 sensors
replace/clean air filter
replace pcv valve
change driving habits
use 87 octane
regret buying a car you can't afford to drive
get rid of car
deal with it

Gotta love the laziness of this country!!......lol
Anyways, I suggest doing some research, first...cause honestly, it could be one of several different issues...
Including, the PCV valve, o2 sensor (s), MAF (mass air flow), Clogged injectors, Bad gas, Dirty air-filter, ect ect...
Also, I was told (atleast here in Ohio), that the change-over from "summer" gas to "winter gas" is about a 20-30 mile difference (winter gas -20-30 MPG loss), as the chemical compounds that are used are different from that of which are used, during the summer.......
Personally, I would run 93 octane (or 91, whatever's available to you) to see if that helps any, and then go from there!
If that doesnt fix it (after a couple of tanks), then I suggest trying one of the other ideas we gave to you...
Process of elimination, man!

this car's a 3.5L it's a pretty big engine so just deal with it lol i've been averaging between 15-17mpg and i've learned to just deal with it. when i first got the car it was a pain in the wallet but it's worth it for me cuz i love the torque on this car compared to my previous car (2000 accord v6 coupe) haha but i don't know how people get their mpg's in the 20's but i best i've ever got was 19 and that was one time and i was so excited lol

there is no way you should only be getting 15 mpg...i would have to say something is clogged...my 2k3 is getting about 25 mpg with it being winter and thats me redlining about 3 times a day...and 21 is the lowest ive ever seen...then it comes back up
lol maybe nyc gas sucks. im getting about 180miles to a tank and im not even redline or anything. just some speeding and short local drives to and from work. still doesnt make sense for 150-180 to a tank lol

dont feel bad, my gas mileage here in cali is not that far off. i had CEL(two months) and then it went off. gas milage was good, drove it normal for about two weeks. now as of last weekend CEL is back on, cant stretch the gears 1st-3rd, rpms are high but the torque is not there. mind you with the first CEL, the car was pulling hard. i just purchased a ODB2 scanner, just waiting to see what it says.
As a matter of fact i think the dealer where i bought this car turned off that CEL light before the car was sold (AS IS).seven days into the breaking in getting to kknow you period, the CEL stopped by to say ( hello I'm here too). go figure.

I used to live in Brooklyn so I know the kind of driving you have to do there. In any case, the weather's gotten colder, if you're warming up the car before driving, that will drop your mpg more than you know especially because the engine runs rich when it's cold, if you're running the defroster, that will kick on the a/c compressor, so there's many factors that could be the issue rather than something really being wrong with the car.
I was getting 17mpg and when I changed the spark plugs, it was 19mpg. Its currently 18.7 b/c I have been having fun lately while driving =P. Plus, I have a 6 speed and manual transmissions are known to be more fuel efficient compared to automatics.
Try changing your spark plugs if you have not already done so. You will be surprised at the jump in mpg

So how is it working out for you?

A better way to calculate mpg is to fill tank and reset the trip meter.
At you next fillup do the same calculation as above, but use the following data:
Trip meter miles / gallons pumped to refill your tank = mpg.
That way you'll truly know your mpg.
How many miles? Clogged catalytic converter/exhaust? Dragging brake rotor? Excess weight (like storing your golf clubs in the trunk)? Engine temperature is normal (proper coolant level)?
Proper engine oil level? I ran into this on my gle, make _SURE_ you're not low on oil. My mileage started going off, and I discovered that the engine was down over 2 quarts....very scary as I'd only owned the car for 3K miles...filled up the engine oil and mileage returned. Moral of the story, check your oil often - like every 1K!!!
Oh and you need to sacrifice a Honda every now and then to appease the Nissan God's...
