Please replace my post in your FAQ-U thread with the following:

Can I run oversized tires on my stock 17" SE Rims?

Apparently not and remain in spec. The most common upsizes for the stock 225/50R17 on Maxima SEs are a 235/45R17 or 245/45R17. Unfortunately, all three Tire and Rim Associations (Japanese, American and European) specify a minimum rim width for these tire sizes of 7.5". The rim width on the stock 5th Gen SE rims is only 7.0".

Many individuals ignore the specifications and upsize anyway. There is a danger inherent in running tires on rims that are too narrow for them, however. Doing so increases lower sidewall stress levels beyond the tires' design limits. In extreme cases, this could lead to sidewall separation.

Although some tire manufacturers state that their 235/45R17 and 245/45R17 tires are spec'd for use on 7.0" wide rims, you should check directly with the manufacturer to make certain that the information is correct and not a misprint before you purchase your tires.
