because some people downshift to slow down instead of using brakes which makes no sense tranny + clutch wear or pad + rotor wear hrm lets think. you only downshift to slowdown when you HAVE to so you don't crash (or when racing to remain in your powerband)

some things fail. but bad drivers make em fail ALOT quicker.
You have no clue, shut up and go away.

a better way to put it...you only down shift when slowing down IF you are going to immediately get back on the throttle and need to power (going around a corner, passing on the highway, etc).
you downshift before acceleration not before (or instead of) braking. if im cruising on the highway in 5th and traffic slows, i apply the brake. i only down shift when im about to accelerate again (because now i know what gear it needs to be in)

seriously.

if i'm wrong then prove me wrong and by all means i'll admit it. don't tell me off. do it the mature way and show that what i said was wrong with examples. we're all here to learn and for the community. we don't need jerks like you around telling people off and running their mouths. got it? good.

The reason's i stated are what drivers do that cause excessive transmission wear. period.

if i'm wrong PROVE IT.

it was for open diff...talked to them this morning and they verified this afternoon. had 12 options all with around 40k and the best price I found was 1170 shipped with 45k. The worst was 1395 shipped for 65k. The lowest mileage was 13k but for the same price I can get a new one for...so you guessed it...new one it will be. I am still waiting to see where the 1710.02 came from...NmexMax???? Bueler???

If you call some of the junk yards that have them listed they'll work with you on the price.

There's certainly nothing wrong about what you said. People can wear certain components by not driving optimally, but there is clearly a problem with Nissan's 6 speed trans. There's a poll on this forum and over 50% of 6 speed owners are reporting at least some problem with synchro grinding. If that were attributed to driver error, then you'd see every other type of car out there having synchro issues as well. Further, I think it’s probably pretty easy to trash a clutch or pressure plate by driving like a fool, but you really have to be an idiot to trash your synchros or dog gears. I mean, you'd basically have to be stuffing the car into gears without clutching or something.

there is nothing wrong with down shifting. Down shifting to slow your car down creates more wear. USE YOUR BRAKES. much cheaper and easier to replace.
i wasnt talking about slowing down.. i was talking about when you jab the gas pedal at 20mph, and the transmission downshifts into 1st to accelerate quickly.. someone told me that was bad to do that.. is that true?

well it's better then moving it into 1st yourself. is it good for the tranny no...not really. more heat and some wear on the clutches but could you do it and probably never have a problem because of it...possibly. the way i look at it is if you can't afford to fix it don't beat on it. i have 40k on my car & tranny i can beat the **** out of it sell the car at 80k and it will probably be good till around 120k when it poops out or it could last till 180k its kinda an unknown but basically the harder you drive any machine the more wear you place on it's components and they will fail faster. at what rate is VERY hard to determin. N bombs and pretending to be an 6sp in your auto will CERTAINLY lower your tranny's life expectancy. a little spirited driving here and there should be fine. if you drive like an idiot all the time perhaps investing in a tranny coolr could increase it's life expectancy. i plan on adding in a tranny cooler in addition to the stock one cuz i have it lieing around and need it for when i use the DR mod + WOT switch.

but thats all a guess at the end of the day...auto trans work on PFM.

well that does sound like there is a problem then. someone asked what makes a gearbox fail quicker and i gave some examples. all this info and knowing i have to move a tranny mount(HARD!) makes my desire is dwindeling for a 6pd in my auto...*sigh* guess i'll be all show and no go
