Opening 02/03 Tails

I have posted on this before, but I have searched and cannot find the information or pictures. I know Liteworks (or something like that) does what I want to do. I have also seen someone else who has done it that sold the tails earlier this year.

OK what I am doing: I just bought some 2003 stock tails and now I want to open them up, get RID of the chrome, paint the yellow signal RED, then close them up and call it a day.

I am wanting some help or inspiration on how to get them open, and possibly a picture or two.

I have a Black GLE no wing, I case anyone has opinions, or ideas.

-Thanks

i belive you gotta cut em open. as far as painting the yellow, ive sceen where people sprayed the paint into the tail lights through the hole for the light bulb, then swirled it or something evenly.

it is almost impossible to open them without cracking them.
if you plan to get rid of the chrome...what color do you want it to be?
why didnt you just get the black SE tails to match your car?

Have a look on my page....you can open them using a Dremel cutting along the egde where the lense is glued to the housing. You can cout out the amber part if you want instead of just painting it red.

Use epoxy glue to reinstall the lense on the housing.

very close to what I am thinking. Never thought about getting rid of the yellow plastic. I was just going to paint it red, so there would be a full red circle. Then for the chrome inside I would paint it (or rub it off if it is like the AE headlight mod) flat black, or a grey color. But they would still have the nice chrome ring on the outside of the circle. Just an idea to make it look a little different and it would have some depth versus the 00/01 SE tails.

I saw someone made and sold a pair, but they did not change the signal part, just got rid of the chrome (I think)

I really dont like the chrome look, but I got the lights for 60 bucks as a project. Ill see what I can do.

I just bought some transparent red hobby paint from walmart and sprayed small amount into the hole were the bulb goes.

Only do alittle at a time tho, cause it will leak out onto the chrome if you spray to much to fast (trust , it happend to me)

I dont see where you cut the light at? is it all along the groove where the clear part is attached to the housing? is it that right? I just dont want to crack the lights at all.

best way to make 02-03 tails look better...put them in your basement and replace them with 00-01 SE tails

I bought some of the 02-03 style black housing tails with the clear lenses. I will be painting the brake lens red, and leaving the bottom clear. I'll post pics when I'm done, just waiting on a UPS claim (cracked lens out of the box)
