muffler on an Auto

Guys with the auto's do you like your exhaust/muffler? Would you have rather not had one? I have had a 95 auto with a muffler and then a 97 5speed with one and the 5speed just seams like it fits better. Any opinions? I am not looking for any clips or anything just a opinions. Thanks

I might be saying this incorrectly but the auto shifts itself and the 5speed does not and with muffler on a 5speed just fits the car better. It doesnt down shift on its own. Does that help at all?

you said the exact same thing

so you are talking about AFTER MARKET muffler?
and if they SOUND better? (the muffler will "fit" on both cars)

Yes I understand that that are universal and I am asking about aftermarket one's. It just seams when i had an auto it would obvisouly shift on its own and would bother me sometimes.

autos shift on there own...im still confused why it bothers you and what is has to do with the exhaust system

The way I took it was fitment, MT vs AT, with respect to aftermarket mufflers, whatever the point is,m my stocker is staying on.

What he's talking about is lets say you have a 5 speed. You can control the RPM range thus you " control " how you want your exhaust to sound. Lets say you exhaust sounds mean from 3-5000 pulls you can keep it in gear yourself.

On an auto, it shifts automatically, so you dont have as much control over how your muffler sounds because it's constantly shifting...

we all know this...duh..so he's asking though with aftermarket muffler on they're auto are you guys satisfied with the sound...

English ftw....

I thought I had an idea of what he was talking about, but. . .like 5 posts in I thought we were talking about stick vs auto.

My stock exhaust has a hole in it and it drones til about 1800rpms. my advice if you're looking for sound, open that puppy up! the electronic throttle on our cars you can roll the exhaust on an auto a little and get rid of the drone. If you want more HP then you need headers or a y-pipe. cat-backs give very low if any gains for the cash.

and who cares about what seems right on stick vs auto? if you don't want to be sporty don't do exhaust mods. get a new stereo or something. god knows we need to replace these damn BlOSE units with something that fits the dash all proper.

Keep the stock muffler, drone is the most annoying sound in the world.

The drone on an Auto 5th gen is really annoying... At least with my old set up. Headers+ Cattman Cat-back. Swapped back to stock muffler... It is all better.

I don't think drone is annoying at all. I like the drone, but everyone has their own opinion.

I'm running a y-pipe, straight, and b-pipe into the stock muffler and it doesn't drone until you hit 3k rpm. Once you step on it, the sound is amazing.

You'll hear my setup today if you show up at the meet.

Stock muffler ftw

I had a bit of droning in my 89 se auto when I switched it to a dual dtm muffler, but for the 2k se auto, I much rather prefer it stock

That's not drone. Stock muffler doesn't drone at all. Aftermarket mufflers usually drone around 1500-2300 depending on your setup and it is freakishly loud.

drone is the annoying sound you hear at lower RPMs while cruising. not the sound when you accelerate.

Since Ive heard other auto cars sounding like crap I was hesitant about getting an aftermarket muffler after being rear ended.A cattman muffler was put on and I was surprised of how perfect it sounds. No drone at all.Love it.

Do you have headers/bpipe?

Only way aftermarket mufflers sound good are if you keep the oem headers/ypipe or bpipe IMO

i went from stock to cattman catback recently, and even though i love brian's parts(no homo) and it sounds great, i'm getting too old for a car with sound.

I found that it still dronned with only the Cattman cat-back... It just got worse after the headers.
