Axales going bad?

while i'm getting some clicking (metal on metal sound) when i go from a stop... but there are no torn boots and no major grinding when making a sharp turn.

my mechanic friens said the old caravens had this sound all the time and all they did was torqe the axel nut tighter with a impaxt and all was good...this the sam for my 02'

only 50k on it

I dont know about that one.... I guess give it a shot
When you first start from a stop, that is when the CV shafts are stressed the most. Just because you dont hear it on a turn doesnt mean it's not the CV. Maybe the steering knuckle of the CV is good, but some other part that takes the brunt of the linear rotation starting from a stop is worn/bad. Just have it rebuilt...

rebuilt? If you determine it is indeed a CV joint problem, just buy Raxles and never worry about it again.

Clicking noises could be alot of things though.....wheel bearings, brake-related, a nail in your tire. You need to be more specific about the noise - it is speed-specific? Does it go away at higher speeds? Do you hear it if you drive tight circles in a parking lot? If so, which direction? And so on....

Get a recording of it if you can, in addition to what irish said.

Irish, how are the Raxles? Both my CV boots are torn and I'm extremely close to just replacing the axles. I can get them from Firestone with lifetime warranty for $110/each or Raxles for $150/each.

Lifetime warranty doesn't mean anything to me. heck, alot of brake pads come with them. All that means is that they're confident that they'll last a while until you get a new car...it's playing the odds for the companies. Remember, warranty is nice, but you still have to do the hassle of removal/install if they go bad.

The Raxles are such great quality and have such a great reputation, I'm confident that they won't EVER need to be replaced, and that makes them worth the extra money, in my book.

Raxles aer NEW joints, not remanufactured, like what you get from Firestone or other OEM-replacement companies.

I dont know why you would have a bad axel at 50k miles, I have been told it makes the clicking sound constantly especially when turning
