HELP!!! bad news from the stealership today..

I went to the stealership today and learned that I will need to replace my "rear member" among other things. The cost of this including labor is going to be $1,028.00. The mechanic said it's leaking and will start to cause suspension problems soon. I've already noticed the issues as he described them.

Looking at the Max parts list the "rear member" is the same as the rear axle beam, correct? Other parts/services that he suggested are: replacing drive belts ($129.00) and replace or service my emergency brake line because it has siezed on the drivers side.

Help me fellas please! If you know where I can purchase and maybe have these parts install in the Philadelphia area please let me know. Also, if you have had these same issues please let me know your experience and outcome.

Thanks in advance.

Chris

PS: I apologize if this is a repeat issue.

It was actually grease. I assume this is either from the rear brake line or the suspension (probably the later).

Agreed! It was Conicelli Nissan in Conshohocken, PA (www.conicelli.com). They charge $96/hour for labor.

um...the rear member is steal, correct?

you most likely need new BUSHINGS, at which point i would look into energy suspensions for as much of them as posible

They probably mean the rear trailing arm, which, IIRC has a bushing that is filled with grease. Since they don't repair and probably don't have just replacement bushings that they can press in, they tell you to replace the entire thing.

Get ES RTA bushings. It will be cheaper and you'll have a better end result.

The bushings in the main rear beam, as well as the bushings in the rear trailing arms...both are oil-filled. If they are indeed leaking, you DO need them replaced. Nissan does not sell the inserts seperately, to my knowledge. So you have 3 options:

1. Pay nissan to replace the entire assembly
2. Find an assembly at a junkyard
3. Buy ES poly pieces and install them.

Thank you! To everyone who read and shared in this thread, thank you! I've never heard of such before and I certainly don't want to be raped by the dealership.

I probably should replace my struts and shocks while up in there too huh?

Maximas don't have shocks, they only have struts. They can be a separate job because it's only a matter of one bolt that share the two jobs, and the wheels of course.

BTW, I can do your struts (and springs) when you're ready. See sig.

Irish, what's the best place to get the bushings? I probably should replace my struts and shocks while up in there too huh?

Thanks bud, I will take you up on that. Also, I may be interested in the trunk solution too.
