Rear Caliper Problem
Rear Caliper Problem
Ok, so i was greasing my brake pad edges up the other day, and i noticed that the brake pad wear was EXTREMELY uneven on my right rear wheel.. the bottom left portion of the pad looked brand new while the rest of it was worn down from a few months of daily use.. also on the same wheel, there is kind of a deep groove that has been cut into the rotor, as if there was a rock or something between the pad and the rotor.. however, i know the brake pad was clean when i put it on, and this groove didnt appear until maybe a month after the install.. now.. the car stops fine, but are these serious problems? like serious enough to buy new calipers and rotors? i have hawk pads and brembo blanks that i put on a couple months ago by the way
Make sure the rear nub found on the brake pad is lined up evenly w/ the indent in one of the indents found on the caliper piston. If you've taken the rear brakes apart, you'll know what I'm referring to. So, even if you haven't, set out an afternoon for it, and you'll know exactly what I'm referring to. Cheap/easy fix. You'll probably need new brake pads (obviously), and from the sounds of your post, new rotors. I'd say the calipers are fine.
hmm... im trying to picture what you're talking about but im not sure.. is this nub on the back of the brake pad or on the the side? i put the pad in pretty much the only place it could go to fit right, so if its not lined up evenly, i have no idea how to get it the way its supposed to be
Ohhh yes there is that little nub on the pad, I remember it when I changed my brakes like a couple weeks ago. The nub is located on the outer side of the pad, that's where the piston comes in contact with the pad. That nub is suppose to line-up perfectly with the piston otherwise you'll have that problem you described. Try moving the piston clockwise in order for the nub to line up perfectly with the groove on the piston.

Becareful, I had my right rear caliper seize. Some others have had problems with rear calipers seizing up.
