struts

so i just came back from the stealership...and after paying 640 dollars for the dealer recommended 30k mile maintenance the guy tells me, "oh your rear right side strut is bad, its leaking, you gotta change it asap, and we recommend you do both...each one is 320 dollars" which sums it up to anoother 640 dollars...

any suggestions?

im thinking "why the fuuck did i buy this car" im starting to dislike it, and its sad...

anyway...what should i do...i dnt even kno what exactly is bad since idk what the "strut" is...i kno theres the spring and the shock...riight??

any help would be appreciated guys.

First off man you shouldn't be going to the dealer for anything IMO. You live in Miami FL and you didn't go somewhere else to get a 2nd or even a 3rd opinion? Enough of that, this is what I recommend, take your car to a tire or brake shop, get their estimate as to what it would cost to fix exactly what the dealership said. Best case scenario, you'll have confirmation as to what the problem is and a 2nd price to work with, now you can decide if you want to fix one or both.

yeah i was thinking of doing that...

theres also a japanesse car specialist close by, its a bit pricey but ive heard good things about it...

plus i doubt anyone else will be as expensive as the stealership.

i went to maroone nissan of miami...the 30k maitenance was almost 500, but i wanted to get the splash guards put on, i thought eh thats what 30 bucks? eh, 110. when i saw that i wanted to scream out loud and cry.

im thinking "why the fuuck did you pay 640 dollars for 30k maintenance" oil change isnt that hard, and you can change the wipers your self, do you not know how to check your fluids? rotate tires? unscrew a bolt? dude, dont blame maximas because of your ignorance.

They want 640 dollars to put in new rear struts......... You can get all 4 Tokico Illuminas and put them in yourself in 2 hours and you will have much better handling for around 400. You can get 2 rear Tockico HPs, which are pretty much OEM replacement for around 100-150. You can replace the rear struts in an hour easily. Don't get ripped off like that.

when you say replace the rear struts what exactly does that mean? replace the springs and shocks, or just the shocks?

I'm not suggesting that your dealership would do this of course, but you could stick you head under the rear wheel well and take a look at the strut. Is is really leaking? Is is dripping on the floor where you park? If yes, whip it clean with a rag and check again in a few days, or a week. If it is moist or wet once again, you probably do indeed have a leaky strut and it should be replaced. And on both sides as the dealer recommended. If it stays dry after you whip it clean for a long time, you got a questionable dealer.

seems like you already donated here, if you search, it will help you a great deal and you will learn alot about our cars. dont ever go to the dealers. for ANYTHING. unless you need parts. but you have
dave B for that. read your onwers manual, thats somewhere to start. regular maintenance stuff you can def learn that on your own. and keep your 600 in your pocket for more important stuff, rather than the giving it to the thieves at the stealership.

our cars dont have "shocks"...we have springs and struts.

so you need to replace the strut. there is plenty of info on here to help you do it.

and you should only go to the dealership for warranty work.
