Worried about my Maxima....

So I was leaving my friend's house last night and as I started the Maxima up, I felt this strange shaking sensation while the car was in Neutral (it's a 5-speed). It felt like maybe the engine wasnt firing properly.

I proceeded to drive it down the street, the shaking continued and my check engine light blinked a few times and then went to a steady on state. The car continued to shake and the check engine light blinked a few more times.

To avoid causing any damage to the engine or any other part of the car, I proceeded to turn the car back around to my friend's house. At he stop light right next to his house, the shaking abruptly stopped. Since then I haven't had any trouble.

Any idea what this shaking sensation may have been? Should I take the car in?

Please help.

Have your code(s) read first ... but ...
Sounds like a coil problem, I had the cel, tcs, slip lights all come on, car drove like cr@p, it turned out to be a bad coil, changed the one, but still had issues w/ the others, ended up changing all 6, and the problem is gone. Knock on plastic.
