Here's an idea for another FAQ-U:

Will a Y-pipe increase my exhaust noise level?

A y-pipe in combination with a stock catalytic convertor and catback system will not appreciably increase your exhaust noise level. However, a Y-pipe will magnify the amount of sound produced by ANY other modifications to your exhaust system. The more extensive the modifications, the more exhaust noise that will be produced.
