I don't know what the TE are supposed to sell for, but that's way too high (IMO) for a 5.5 with 70K.

Why not check prices on some of the Internet sites? Is it from a dealer or private party? 6 speed or auto?

When trying to determine a fair price for a used car (buying or selling) I'd go to kbb.com, edmunds, nada, etc and look up wholesale, private party and retail values and average them to get a price in each category. It also is helpful to look around on autotrader.com to see what others are asking for a similar model as compared to the averages you calculated. Armed with those numbers, you should have enough info to determine what's a fair market value as well as justification for negotiating.

you guys need to factor in where he's looking. Varies by state. In Georgia typical righ now for a car like that if it was a 6speed the trade in value would prob be around 9500 and private party i'd say you could get 11.5-2

If you can talk the price down then it might be reasonable but that's a lot for a non-fully loaded 5.5

Prices vary greatly by state and location. Someone in the South is gonna pay less than someone in the Northeast. Your best bet is research. Hit up Autotrader.com, cars.com and so forth. Check out the prices for similar vehicles and make sure and widen the search if insufficient results arise.

Condition has alot to do with it as well.

Exactly a year ago, I paid 11.2k for a 01 Meridiam, Fully Loaded with 50k. The condition was immaculate. I could have found the same car for 10k, but with more miles and beat up.

RESEARCH... is key

Same here pretty much ($7,700) except mine had brembo brakes, new ignition coils, sparks, battery, and MAF. It got totaled almost a yr later and the insurance gave me 88 or 8,900 for her. I was like hell yeah, at least I didn't lose cash, only my time.

Point of story I guess is to not overpay, so if something happens, you don't lose your *** on the car.

Yeah, GAP insurance is your best friend sometimes......

I paid 11750 for my 02 SE 6/speed, leather, all the toys except nav. and a LSD tranny. One owner (old guy, they best kind), and the car was immaculate, not a curb rash, ding dent or scratch........

but gap insurance is only if you owe more on your car than what it is worth right?

Yeah, but In my case with my 01 that got totalled 3 months after I bought it, I paid something like 9k for it, and an extra 75k miles of extra, full bumper-to-bumper insurance which cost 2600. So, I paid 11600 in total, and when the insurance company added up the value of my car, they were going to give my 11400 for it. I gave them the bill of sale for my car, and they said they were only going to give me what I paid for the car, which was 9k + the tax I paid. So, Because I declined the gap insurance, I had to pay out of pocket for the extra insurance. I fought and fought with them, so far as contacting the state attorney general's office, and they said that the company only has to pay on the car itself, not what I owed on the vehicle.
