5.5 6spd, Throw out bearing going out?
5.5 6spd, Throw out bearing going out?
Ok, so i have been getting this anoying Chirping sound when the clutch is all the way out and the car is running, weather its in gear or in nuetral. If i push the clutch in about a 1/2" it goes away completly. Now common sence tells me this is the throw out bearing and it probalby needs to be replaced, however someone told me that it may just be out of adjustment (first i herd of a throw out being adjustable/out of spec).
now there is nothing wrong with my clutch other than the noise and don't realy want to have the tranny pulled just to have the throwout replaced unless it going to score the shaft or damage something (in which case i would just have the cluch replaced while in there since its all apart anyway)
so heres the deal, is my throw out going to destroy anything because its chirping?
is it posible the clutch pedal out of adjustment (needs to be shortened)?
is there there such a thing as an adjustable throw out bearing (or out of spec)?
any clue as to what i am talking about, lol?
i also thought this what contributing the my Clicking sound which i think is my axels (metal clicking sound, almost like the spring fingers on hte clutch pinging like the tines on a cheap black plastic comb and your running your down the tines, only it usually only clicks once or twice) but is still click if i push the clutch in a little and mainly comes from the passanger side.
sorry if it seems like i am babbling, just looking for answers (the chirping is getting anoying, its not very loud but i hear it non the less)

This is the famous input shaft bearing noise. Pushing in the clutch pedal disengages the clutch from the trans and stops the bad bearing from rotating. That is why the noise goes away.
Release bearing may be bad as well, but it will take a trans removal to be certain. You can then rotate the input shaft by itself and diagnose it also.

Is your clutch pedal properly adjusted for free play?
It could be that very little clutch pedal movement is required to disengage the clutch.
Even so, if you are getting a whirring, squealing type of noise from the clutch/trans area, there is a bad bearing of some sort responsible. It will have to come apart eventually to fix it.
And yes, a bad release bearing will soon destroy your clutch fingers.

looking to get this chirping situated and taken car of....what have people payed at the dealership to have it done?
i know i know....i really don't want to go to the dealership....but this is something i am not looking to do on my own...from what i unserstand its not a easy thing to do "at home"
from what i gather its the throw out or input shaft bearing mmaking the chirpin from replies to my previos thread, but i wonder why the sound doesnt change with rpms..
any who...how bad is hte price tag?

ok, so its not the throw out of anything internal....it is the slave pin against the clutch fork....there is a slight amount of play and the metal on metal contact get vibrated by the engine running...LOL
so i sprayed it with some white lith and it seems better...
is there a way to put a little more preasure on the fork? worse case is it still makes noise i'll pull the slave and smooth and grease the contact area
