why in the world are you running pressures that high???? IIRC that's pretty close to the Proxes4 maximum pressure.

I do a lot of highway driving and keeping the pressure that high does seem to help keep tire wear down quite a bit.

Boss Chen from what I've heard has the best ride quality and can lower the car a lot (~3") without changing the suspension travel. I had some D2s and loved the drop, but they were too stiff for my taste. It's all a compromise for Maximas with ride quality/handling/drop, and so far I'm happiest with what I've got now versus everything else I've tried.

I love my S-Tech Illumina setup. Very firm ride ride. Yes it can be rough at times but I got no complaints. Bump stop's cut, 235/40/18 tires and no rubbing issues what so ever. The only other setup I'd go with is Tein SS.

Illuminas are probably the best struts. S techs are debatable because a lot of people think they are too low/too stiff, whatever. But I really like them, they don't seem too stiff to me and I love the drop, and yeah Tein does make high quality stuff.

I Run around 43-44 psi (max 44 psi) what would be wrong with that?

"Comfort" and "Handling" are two words that do not belong anywhere near S-Tech Springs.

This coming from a former S-Tech owner, a former H-Tech owner, and current front H&R owner.

Obviously not as low, but better in every other aspect than the other springs I've run.

Out of all the springs I've had, H&Rs are the most comfortable. They're still not stock-like ride quality, however. That will never be found in a lowering spring.

The S-Techs, IMO, were garbage. No other way to put it.

The H-Techs - the look was awesome, the handling not so great. The front springs seemed to bottom out too much. I liked the rear springs, however. They seemed to have everything right about them. Just the fronts had issues.

Konis are the best struts (they make Illuminas look primitive).

S-Techs are too low and too soft, so they take your suspension outside of the proper range for good geometry and make you hit the bump stops way more than you should.

Tein makes good stuff. Not great, or even very good. Just good. They're not a ghetto budget company by any means, but they're definitely not high-end (except for their more expensive stuff, most of which is not and will never be available for the Max).

Although, since most of the suspension stuff for the Max is pretty weak, some of Tein's stuff does look nice...

I don't mean to sound rude, but this line of questioning is getting old really fast. There are thousands of threads around this site on the topic of springs and struts, and tons of suspension stickies in the various generational forums (including this one). Stop asking these basic questions and go do some research on your own. The information is out there, including polls and hugely long threads discussing this topic.

Dang this thread has turned into quite the spring/strut debate. I started it to simply give my opinion on a setup that was new to me.

Bottom line S-Tech's and Illumina's are not the worst thing out there and people should stop saying that.

It is a personal preference. If you can handle the drop and ride quality then its great for some. If not, then it is not good for you, not everyone else.

Atleast S-TEch's do not have you bouncing around like cut-spring Honda's booting around.

Again it is a personal preference!!

After a while with the S-tech and Illumina's does the *** sag at all??
would adding a box subs and amps add to any sagging tendencies? ??

They might, they're about perfect now and I don't have anything in the trunk. If you had H techs in the rear with subs it would probably be level.

This thread is actually fairly helpful to me.

I've finally gotten around to changing out my suspension and have read much of what is in the billion threads around here. Including the suspension questionaire thread - which some of you ought to contribute your opinions too if you haven't already.

From reading those threads, I came to the conclusion that Illuminas and H-tech would offer me the best combo. But after reading Irish's comments, and those of some others, I'm thinking Eibach and Illuminas will be what I go with.

Basically, I'm looking for what I expect many would want: Better handling, somewhat lowered, and sacrificing only a small amount of ride comfort.

I mean how could anyone with Irish's number of posts be wrong? (Even if he hasn't been a member here as long as me!)

Thanks for the info.

Yesterday me and my body installed Eibach springs on Illuminas. I tell this, those springs look and feel great. They are shorter that stock....daaaa....about 3 inches. Like the front strut you could compres with your hands to put that nut on. Not sure how they feel while driving. It was done on 4th gen maxima.

You mean they feel great if you are sitting in the car? Is that with the engine running or off?

Keep in mind that his opinion is still just an opinion no matter how many posts he has. It's way way WAY more informed than most people's here, but it's not a universal truth.

That said, it's probably about as close as you're going to get.

Eibach and Progress are probably the only two companies that really, really put the time in to develop their products fully, so their springs have none of the weird quirks that every other spring kit seems to have: H&Rs give a sagging look in the rear on some cars; Tein H-Techs can make the car feel wobbly or shaky; Tein S-Techs are so soft and drop your car so low that you're practically riding on the bumpstops (literally); and so on. Progress and Eibach springs will drop your car as low as they can without totally destroying your suspension geometry, give a very civil ride, and are firm enough to keep the car under control at all times. Plus, Eibach is one of the two generally-accepted best automotive spring manufacturers in the world (the other being Hyperco).

Tokico Illuminas are definitely second-best behind Koni Yellows, but they're more affordable and much easier to install.

That was meant to be a bit sarcastic . . .
but seriously, I know that everyone has different opinions. That's why there are so many threads on this subject and you read in one that X is great and in another that X sucks.

Thanks for all the additional info.

In the end, if I don't like the springs I'll buy some others. I'm doing all the labor so I figure the best thing is to go with decent struts. Easy to get rid of springs.

because you know I'm picky and won't settle until I find exactly what works best which is why I've had so many damn sets of springs

going with Progress/Illuminas along with the progress RSB and a Ebay FSB.
I think suspension should come before I/H/E mods.

S-techs are low, sexy drop, but from what im reading will make you spill your half cup of coffee on the way to work in NY.

Illuminas def get the respect the deserve tho. not 2 sure who wins is a head to head battle against Koni's...

Konis by a mile. It's not even a contest.

Illuminas are for people who can't or don't want to pay the extra ~$150 and cut up their stock struts for the install.

This Max was the Pace car, the silver one is a bona fide race car that competed in the support races before the local Indy Car races. I think it held it's own too, was beaten by a BMW or some such...

Anyway...carry on
