Pressure Plate Over-Torque Results???

So what would happen if I overtorqued pressure plate bolts?? Just asking cause I think I gave them more then 30ft-lbs.. Those 30ft-lbs feels like nothing, so I think i gave it another 20 probably.. Would this affect the clutch engagment range in any way. This is my second clutch on the car with 150k miles. Its there since 97k. I can make it slip in second gear- stinks pretty bad..

Any suggestions? COmments on overtorque?

Thanks

They can, and have, snapped on .org members from over-tightening, which resulted in destroyed trannsmissions...........

I am more concerned about the performance of the clutch. Do they play any effect on how the clutch engages? I know I didn't snap any.

The only reason I am asking is because last weekend I did a clutch job for someone else. I remembered that in FSM it says to 30ft-lbs. but when I did it on my car, I thought it wasn't enough and gave it an extra few ft-lbs. Just because it felt so easy. Now my clutch feels like poop and slips on demand (only when I really want it to in 2nd gear).

Did when I changed the clutch.

Start with adjusting the engagement point via the adjustment rod at the top of the clutch pedal, the only effect the bolts will have is if they become loose or snap obviously the pressure plate won't be able to do it's job clamping the disc down. Any possibility for a contaminated disc? What about a half-assed rear-main/upper oil pan seal, ie not dropping the upper pan and having it leak worse than before, it has to leak real bad though and there would be oil pissing out the inspection cover area, I'm just tossing this out there, it's more than likely an adjustment issue......

I'll try to play with adjustment mech... There might be rear main leak. I noticed that the inspection cover plate was wet. Cleaned it, sprayed some break cleaner in there, no change...

Thanks

hate to dig up an old thread but i was wondering if when installing a aftermarket pressure plate like the ACT XT and HD plates if your're supposed to torque the bolts more because it needs more pressure to bring the plate to the flywheel... I got 30ft/lbs from the haynes manual... does the FSM say 30 too??

I did mine at 30 - we'll see if it flys apart....

Aftermarket clutch makes no difference on the pressure plate bolt torque.
They are the same bolts doing the same job, hence the same torque specification applies.
